21.01.2022 A long time between meetings the Albany Creek Rotary Club decided to venture outside to catch up and share some stories. A wonderful few hours was spent at Bullocky Rest catching up and soaking in the sunshine. What a welcome it was to escape the social isolation that many of us experienced in the last few months. Thank you to member Rick for suggesting this great idea.

13.01.2022 A great day was held yesterday attending the train ride throughout the SE Qld rail network. Both DGs and other district office bearers from 9600 and 0630 were on the train along with presidents and members of various clubs and a Rotaractor. It was a great social occasion as there was plenty of opportunity to chat one on one as we travelled along seeing many stations on the network that one would not usually visit. Having so many Rotarians all wearing their polio shirts was quite a spectacle and made an impression to commuters and railway staff. It was great fun and promoted awareness of this virus.

10.01.2022 What a weekend! Our annual change over dinner was celebrated by a camp fire cook up. Akubra's were essential as the rain cleared and the sun shone for us. After so long being apart it was great to get out and meet once again and share in the fellowship of one another's company. Thank you to President Alan and Rick (Our Bushie Masterchefs) for preparing our scrumptious meals and to all the families who bought the wonderful desserts. It certainly was a wonderful afternoon celebrating another fantastic Rotary Year. Thank you to @Albanycreekscouts for hosting us and letting us use your fire pit.
08.01.2022 Water for Peace! The success of the Supurunda Water Supply Project in Papa New Guinea has been a benchmark project for Rotary! This project has ensured tha...t eight villages with over 3000 villagers now have access to clean drinking water for the first time ever The water is spring-fed and delivered via a gravity-fed system with minimal moving parts - making ongoing maintenance easy, user friendly and cost-effective The spring source has a flow of 2.25 litres per second and can supply up to 65 litres per person! We can definitely agree that is a huge success for Rotary and we look forward to sharing more like it! www.rotary9600.org/rotarycms #Rotary #Rotaract #Rotaractor #PeopleOfAction #Humanitarians #Community #PromotingPeace #ProtectingPeople #FightingDisease #SupportingEducation #GrowingEconomies #Sustainability #CleanWater #SavingLives

04.01.2022 October was a busy month and we look forward to an even busier November.
03.01.2022 Australian Rotarian, Clem Renouf, was the second Austalian elected as a Rotary International President (1978/79) and is credited with sparking the End Polio Now... campaign. During his presidential year, Sir Clem decided it was time for the legion of Rotary clubs around the world to focus less on parochial projects and tackle a big-picture problem that would leave an indelible mark on society. He had been inspired by the World Health Organization (WHO)’s eradication of smallpox and came up with Rotary’s Health, Hunger and Humanity program that would initially see 6.3 million children immunised against polio in the Philippines at a cost of just $760,000. Suddenly Sir Clem realised there was a real power for good in the form of the ready-made Rotary network spanning the globe. A lot of people say I spearheaded the eradication of polio campaign, but that’s not right. I just happened to know the right person to talk to, Sir Clem said. The right person was Rotary district governor Dr John Sever, who was head of infectious diseases at the National Institute of Health in Washington DC. Sir Clem put the question to him was there another disease that could be eliminated? His answer was Polio - Now , more than forty years later, we are 99% of the way there and are "this close" to realising Clem's dream RIP Sir Clem.

01.01.2022 Rotary Club of Albany Creek swung into action and responded to a call out on our local communities facebook group - Albany Creek Mums This post suggested our community should install these "Happy to Chat" benches to encourage people to connect. Our club invites you to take a spell and sit for awhile and talk to your neighbours. Listen and be rewarded with a smile you receive in return. If COVID has taught us anything its important to be kind and reach out to those that may not have family close by. Thank you to Councillor Cath Tonks and Matt Constance and Moreton Bay Regional Council for assisting us get this project installed at the Albany Creek Library and Lemke Park. #RotaryInAction
