20.01.2022 Volunteers help us build strong and resilient communities. Let's celebrate volunteers who are making a difference in our region. This is Jack Engwerda's story. During the lockdown and isolation created by coronavirus, we have a community obligation to ensure that our most vulnerable seniors, and those living alone, are not forgotten. Through my voluntary work at U3A Ballarat (University of Third Age), we have continued to conduct our many courses and activities online and em...ail, as well as social phone follow ups. I personally conduct a class the Vikings involving 30 participants; requiring 15-20 hours/week of research and class preparation; and then emailing out class notes inviting involvement, thereby enabling those who live alone to participate, to feel important and that they belong. I am also a proud member of The Rotary Club of Ballarat West. This concept is based on a program started by New York Cares.
