23.01.2022 Announcing the WINNERS of Rotary's Young at Heart Festival Kids Colouring in Competition. Thank you to the 250+ local kids who submitted artwork - we have been amazed and inspired and had a really tough time selecting winners! We gave giftcards to 8 talented kids - Jeremy, Hannah, Therese, Abigail, Alice, Allegra, Amery and Adwit (some submissions did not contain parent contact details so once schools open we will send giftcards through the schools) The following photos conta...in these 8 winning works along with 16 other wonderful finalists (in no particular order) - we thought we should share them as they were all so beautiful! All artwork has been anonymised to ensure privacy. Here are a few words from some of the winners! "I love my Grandparents very much. Every time I visit them they cook my favourite dishes, buy me so many gifts and make me happy with warm cuddles and kisses. I am always the happiest around them. I visit my grandparents only once a year and I always wish I could meet them more often and make them happy" "I am very happy to have won something. I enjoyed drawing and colouring the picture" "I enjoyed the colouring competition because I like rainbows and making everything colourful like a rainbow. Rainbows make me happy!"

20.01.2022 District 9685 held their Changeover a little later than usual due to Covid19! This was conducted with a strict social distancing in mind at the Castle Hill RSL for lunch on Sunday. We all feel for our District Governor #KalmaMcLellan who has had to adjust and replan many of our usual get togethers included the much loved annual Rotary Conference which was to be held in Wollongong this year. But it is amazing how quickly we do adjust and regroup and make the best of every situation. Kalma certainly proved how many wonderful projects were conceived and completed in our very new and different environment. We are grateful to Kalma and her District Team for a Year to Remember 2019-2020 Rotary Connects the World! We congratulate the incoming District Governor David Clark for his year 2020-2021 Rotary Opens Opportunities

16.01.2022 Why did Niranjan Deodhar JOIN ROTARY and why he STAYED Before joining, I thought long and hard about the time commitment, and about spending precious time on meetings, committees, reports.rather than getting on with making a difference. I have to say my apprehensions were unfounded we focus on getting things done, and there is very little distraction, if any, with the paperwork so to speak. The opportunity to serve communities locally and globally - be that bringing our... local community together for a book fair or Christmas carols, or addressing loneliness and isolation amongst the elderly in Australia, or improving sanitation and rain-water reuse in other lands. I have found Rotary to be a local and global network of friends with a common cause to make someones life just a little bit better and have some fun while at it! Now our current President.
16.01.2022 WHY DID VINITA DEODHAR JOIN ROTARY I believe we all have a collective responsibility to tackle pressing issues faced by our societies. Rotary gives me the means to serve global and local communities in the hope of making the world a better place. ... What attracted me to Rotary was the fact that it is a philanthropic service organisation, it is non-religious, non-political, and with very high integrity; it has this amazing combination where I can leverage its grassroots network of clubs as well as its global presence to deliver service projects. I love the fellowship and fun we have and I always feel valued at my Club". Vinita Deodhar
16.01.2022 Rotary is women friendly and has no ceiling! Women have positions as Club Presidents, District Governors, Assistant Governors and Zone Leaders!

14.01.2022 Why did Dave Anderson JOIN ROTARY and why he STAYED Two years ago prior to the ECRL Epping to Chatswood Rail Link being upgraded to Metro standards, I was curious to see if one could travel the entire Sydney suburban rail network in one day. I thought it would be a fun little day out. In the past I had some success with charity fundraisers for Movember, Worlds Greatest Shave, and others. So I thought I might as well see if I could raise some money. If I could get a grand, th...at would be great. After much consideration, I settled on Rotary Polio. Dad seems very passionate about it. I started donating to the Rotary Foundation around 2014? It was brought to my attention that the charities I was donating to spend exorbitant amounts of money on "administration", and "overheads". Rotary on the other hand has a very low administration rate, and I felt it was a good return on investment. The projects that the Rotary Foundation undertakes has a positive impact on humanity, and I feel it is ethically sound to donate my charitable allocation there. When I brought up the idea of the train challenge to my dad over a Sunday dinner he jumped right on board. It became a lot bigger than I ever expected it to be. All the press clippings said Rotarians Mark and Dave Anderson. I was not a Rotarian at the time. A few days before the challenge, I was inducted into Beecroft Rotary. In my first week of being a Rotarian we raised $240,000. I do not think many others can say that. In my first year as a Rotarian I was very concerned. At the time there was a 20-30 year age gap between myself and the next youngest Rotarian. I was honestly concerned about Beecroft Rotary dying out. My grandfather was a member for over 30 years and helped build the club. I did not want Rotary to die out, resulting in all the good work they do being undone. It just would not be Christmas without the carols in the Village Green. Thankfully Melanie Lewis joined about the same time as me, and the statistic moved to 2 under 40. Due to the efforts of President Johanna Johns we now have 5 under 35, and a significant contingent of Gen X and Y in the club. The social parts of the evening are a lot better as I now have a range of people to chat with over a spectrum of ages. After I joined, I am feeling more and more part of the Beecroft Community (despite not actually living in Beecroft). When I work on the book fare, sell Christmas Raffle tickets, MC the carols, I feel I am part of a community. I value the guest speakers. I learn a lot about the world and feed my brain. I feel joy knowing that my money and efforts are going towards making the world a slightly less horrifying place.

12.01.2022 One of the AREAS OF FOCUS of ROTARY INTERNATIONAL is EDUCATION!
12.01.2022 Service Above Self Award PDG David Rands When most Rotarians think about awards, their mind instantly turns to a Paul Harris Recognition that their Club may have recognised them with. For most Rotarians when a Club does choose to bestow this recognition, it is an extremely proud moment. So it should be. ... The Club is Making a contribution to THE ROTARY FOUNDATION of $1,000 to make this particular recognition possible. While many may view the Paul Harris as an award, unfortunately it is not an award but a Recognition of outstanding service to the Club. The highest award a Club can actually bestow upon a member is the Avenues of Service Citation. This can be bestowed in regard to a particular Avenue of Service or recognised across all the avenues of Service. Around the world, the highest award that can be bestowed upon a Rotarian is the SERVICE ABOVE SELF award. A maximum of 150 can be bestowed in one year. Note, the maximum number this past Rotary year, 147 such awards were made and we are very proud to have PDG David Rands receive this recognition at the District Changeover held on Sunday afternoon at Castle Hills RSL Club. Our immediate PDG Kalma McLellan made the announcement and presented the award. How very proud are we that David is our very first SERVICE ABOVE SELF Awardee. David has had a distinguished Rotary Career as a Rotarian and as a Rotary leader. David is our Clubs, most recent Past District Governor. He has also served the District as the DRFC (District Rotary Foundation Chair. He is currently an ARRFC (Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Chair). At the same time, he continues to serve our District as a member of The District Foundation Team and is currently our Clubs Rotary Foundation Chair. Congratulations PDG David Rands

05.01.2022 We finally found the opportunity to award our PHF’s for the Rotary year 2019-2020. These awards are usually presented at the clubs ChangeOverDinner in June or 1st week in July, but due to Covid19 we had to wait till November! Rotarians associate the naming of a Paul Harris fellow as a tribute to a Rotarian who has demonstrated a shared purpose with the educational and humanitarian objectives of the Rotary Foundation. The recognition is named after Rotary’s Founder, the late P...aul Harris, a Chicago Lawyer who started with three business associates in 1905. A world of goodwill and better understanding comes closer to reality today because the Rotary Club of Beecroft has made a gift to the Rotary Foundation so that 3 of our members can be named as a Paul Harris Fellow. In being presented with a Paul Harris Fellow recognition they join a remarkable company of people throughout the world, all recognised for their commitment to the Service Above Self to benefit local and international communities. Our three members are Bob Catheral and Greg Keighran and Melanie Lewis. We congratulate them and thank them for their commitment to Rotary’s common goals of world understanding and peace.
