25.01.2022 What a wonderful speaker Laura Dusseljee, founder of Forever Young Rock Choir, was at our Rotary meeting via Zoom last week... Laura spoke at length on her origins, arrival in Australia and eventually getting her desired position at Girton Grammar. How she developed a choir from a desire to get the young and old together with a passion for music and singing, gathering the school behind her and eventually it developed in to a choir that encompasses people from both ends of th...e age spectrum into a cohesive and fully engaged group that truly crosses the age and music boundaries. She has also garnered enthusiasm from a group of stars, in their own right that have engaged with the choir along the way. I guess there are few that could stand in the way of Laura getting her persuasive way. Thanks Laura, for a great talk :) Join us on Tuesday's via Zoom at 1.00pm to hear from other interesting Guest Speakers. Meeting ID 370 110 6873 Password 12031925. 18.01.2022 It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet in person at last week’s night meeting at the Bendigo Club. With great attendance and the addition of a really interesting speaker, Anita Scott, it really was an enjoyable evening. Anita Scott has been supplying her costumes and mascot’s to schools and dance companies throughout central Victoria ever since the end of her own dance career with the Victorian Ballet School. We heard the history attached to some of the gowns and ...how they came to be in Anita’s curatorial care in her collection. Anita also supplies for outfits for our Christmas carols in Rosalind Park, who knew! We like to support all the kids in theatre, dance, ballet, because we all enjoy that sort of thing and we just get a big kick out of it as well. Ms Scott makes many of her costumes herself, and even many of those she buys are custom made on her behalf. I do everything from Melbourne, Shepparton, Castlemaine, Benalla, Maryborough, she says. A lot of my mascots, they're all one offs, you can't find them on eBay or anything and some of them have been flown to Adelaide and Sydney, for that [reason], she says. I've never been to Sydney or Adelaide but my mascots go there. Imagine 1200 high quality dresses being on our back door and we don’t really know much about them. Thank You Anita for giving us a glimpse of your gowns.

11.01.2022 A wonderful project of the Rotary Club of Bendigo. This article is in the national magazine Rotary Down Under last month and currently on the District 9800 website. Terry Jarvis, one of Australia’s most exceptional watercolour artists, and his partner Michelle Kent, wondered how they could help during one of the toughest droughts in Australia’s history. So, in November 2019, they stuck to what they knew and generated the ‘Life on the Land Our Farming Heroes’ painting exhi...bition at the Bendigo Town Hall. In order to stage the exhibition and organise the distribution of funds, Terry enlisted the help of the Rotary Club of Bendigo. Since then $87,000 has been raised and is being distributed via the Rotary ‘Life on the Land Drought Relief Appeal’. Congratulations and gratitude to Terry Jarvis, Brian Figg and all committee members and club members for this huge Australia wide initiative. 01.01.2022 Join us for our Zoom meeting tomorrow at 1pm when we will hear from Natasha Johnstone from Drought Angels. It all began in January 2014, when two ladies who worked together in Chinchilla heard stories of struggling farmers that could not put food on their own tables. They were having to shoot stock and sometimes turning the gun on themselves. Natasha Johnston & Nicki Blackwell felt compelled to do something to help these families so they did some fundraising and raised enoug...h to assist 1 family. They loaded up a ute and trailer and off they went. Natasha and Nicki had no idea of the impression they were leaving on families until they started receiving heartfelt responses of gratitude which became the motivation to continue their plight in Supporting Aussie Farmers.
