25.01.2022 Sue Robertson's Story Sue and Allan have booked their wedding at the Chapel for April 2021, but Sue’s connection with the Rotary Chapel goes back a very long way and has multiple layers. Sue used to work at the old Gold Coast Hospital in Nerang Street Southport and had fond memories of spending time in the Hospital Chapel when her first husband, Kim, was receiving chemotherapy treatment. It was a place of solace and comfort for Sue during those dark days. And readers will ...recall, it was one of Councillor Dawn Crichlow O.A.M.’s motivations for making sure the Chapel was saved when it was gifted to the Rotary Club of Broadwater Southport to relocate to the Broadwater Parklands. At the time her sentiment was there have been too many tears shed and prayers prayed in that Chapel we can’t let this precious part of the Gold Coast’s history be demolished. Sue met up with the Rotary member who administers the Chapel at a Gold Coast University Hospital event in January of this year she is still an employee of the Hospital working in the New Born Care Unit - and shared with us the fond memories she had of the Chapel and her hope to hold her wedding to Allan there. But over and above this we learned that not only Sue, but her 3 sons, Joshua, Benjamin and Zachary, had all been Rotary Exchange Students, spending a year overseas and being immersed in the cultures of another country a hall mark program of Rotary International. Sue was sponsored by the Albany Rotary Club in W.A. and spent her year in Japan, Joshua was sponsored by the Warwick Sunrise Club and travelled to Germany, Benjamin was sponsored by Ashmore Club and travelled to Austria, and Zachary was sponsored by Kirra Club and spent his year in Switzerland. In another twist of synchronicity, the ward at the Hospital where Sue works, has been on the receiving end of the Rotary Club of Broadwater’s annual donation to the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation with gifts to the ward of vital equipment needed to care for premature babies. How wonderful it will be to have Sue and Allan tie the knot in our Chapel having learned of the multiple fascinating connections through the Hospital and Rotary.

19.01.2022 Back in July 2018, Ray McCabbin of Jimboomba approached us to book in a wedding for the following year. Little did we know he was a fellow Rotarian at the Rotary Club of Jimboomba. Upon marrying his bride, Suzanne Desailly, at the Rotary Chapel he relocated to the Gold Coast and a few months later decided to join the Rotary Club of Broadwater Southport. Since then Ray has become an invaluable member and has brought with him years of experience from Jimboomba to our club. Last month Ray and Suzanne celebrated their 1st Wedding Anniversary and they have allowed us to share some images from their special day. With 16 grandchildren between them, we especially love their Here Come The Grandkids procession leading into the Chapel. What a true family affair!
