12.01.2022 Rotarians are people who dig wells from which they will never drink; Vaccinate children they will never meet; Restore eyesight for those they will never see; Build housing they will never live in’ Educate children they will never know;... Plant trees they will never sit under; Make crawlers into walkers half way around the world. and know real happiness that, as Albert Einstein said, Happiness can only be found by helping others and aren’t we blessed to be part of Rotary.

09.01.2022 Last night we were treated to a wonderful final presentation from our Rotary Youth Exchange Student, Nicolai Borup. Nicolai spoke of his exchange, including meeting other YEP students, both Inbound and Outbound while he was here. He showed us pictures from his YEP camps and tours and spoke about his school time at St Peter's Indooroopilly and how different the experience was from Denmark, especially the uniform. Nicolai took the time to thank the club and his Host Families fo...r their support during his stay. Nicolai's father, Kristian, speaking via Zoom from the family home in Aalborg in Denmark, also passed on thanks on behalf of the family to all who made this possible for Nicolai, with a special mention to David Bray and the D9630 YEP committee for putting together a mini Safari at such short notice because of the continued state border closures in Australia. The pictures show President Steve Bennett presenting Nicolai with his Graduation Certificate, and a card and gift from the club to Nicolai after his presentation. The gift was a Brisbane Roar jersey for football mad Nicolai to wear in Denmark. Nicolai departs for home on Emirates flight EK431, Friday evening July 3rd. The plane leaves at 9.00pm so anyone wishing to say goodbye wopuld need to be at Brisbane International Airport by 6.00pm. See more

04.01.2022 Today I made the tough but right decision to finish up in Radio. Since I was 6 years old I had the dream to work in the industry and I was so lucky to get the c...hance to live out that dream, but I also realise that sometimes dreams aren’t forever. I’ve been open with my struggles with mental health and that is the reason why I spent all my time setting up my very own non-for-profit called Borderline Youth Camp to educate and help teenagers through their darkest days through camps and other programs and by talking about my experiences too. I remember my old boss Jack Ball asking me the week before I left Hit105 (B105) in 2019 what my passion really was and without hesitating I told him it was running youth programs. This is where my heart is right now and it isn’t with radio. It’s been a tough, exciting & life changing few years working for @b105brisbane & @973brisbane and it was an experience I’ll never forget - but to better myself and live an incredible life it isn’t about the glitz and glam of radio for me it’s about doing what was right in front of me the whole time screaming for me to grab it by the horns and run with it and that’s Borderline Youth Camp. Thank-you to everyone I crossed paths with while working at SCA & ARN you have no idea how much those relationships mean to me. I’ll be finishing up my last shifts in radio-land this Friday.. for now.

03.01.2022 Our members marshalling the cars for Gregory Terrace footy games today. Thanks team!

03.01.2022 Our ever-popular annual Rotary Fun Run is something very special this year, because of COVID. For the 2020 Rotary Fun Run, we've gone virtual so it's completely online and registrations are open now. Register at www.rotaryfunrun.com.au. No coming to a park to run or walk with a large group of people and be timed. You can complete your activity at your leisure over your normal route during the period 1-6 September, logging your time using a time keeper such as Strava, FitBit o...r Garmin, etc. then on 5th or 6th September, upload your time to the website, together with the tracker used, map, etc. so we can verify your route and time. Because it's virtual, a participant can be anywhere in the world. We're thinking exchange students, Rotary Clubs in other countries, park run participants, little athletics, corporate teams, sporting teams, ...... the list goes on! Prizes for category winners, team winners, first responders teams, largest team and special awards for best dressed male and female and best dressed dog. It's a WIN WIN situation. Participants get a little fitter and hopefully gets them on a fitness path, make new friends, and feel good about their contribution to help the homeless and underprivileged people and cancer care patients in Brisbane and throughout Queensland. So spread the word widely and ask your friends to do the same and so on. It could go viral and wouldn't that be great! If successful, we might incorporate a virtual event with our physical fun run, making it a hybrid event next year. Our world has changed because of COVID. Let's embrace it as we dive further into the 21st Century. See more
