22.01.2022 Help Needed! Have you heard of "Nurture Kits"? Nurture Kits have been created to assist healthcare workers' wellbeing at The Women's and Children's Hospital. The pressures of working in a stressful environment can take its toll! We want to make their lives a little better by providing boxes of nurturing items to take a moment for themselves at the end of a long day and know that someone cares and appreciates them.... The Rotary Adelaide Innovation Group and WCH volunteers are creating another batch of Nurture Kits on 16th January at the Comfort Inn Regal Park. We have enough volunteers attending on the day, but we need items to fill the Nurture Kits! This is where we need your help! Donated items needed for the Nurture Kits. Scented candles Coffee mugs Bath salts or bombs Small puzzle books Hand cream Flavoured tea Coffee sachets Facial masks Essentials oils Bookmarks Donations can be dropped off at next Wednesdays Luncheon Adelaide Oval (See Jo Fiedler, Jill Chapman or Frida Cheok). Alternatively, please drop them off at the Regal Park Comfort Inn before the 16th January.

22.01.2022 Medicine may be an age old profession. However, did you realise that the first medical exams to accredit anaesthetists were only conducted in the UK in 1953! Dr Jon Crowhurst had everyone fascinated with his insights on anaesthesia, and the misunderstandings arising from the disaster at Pearl Harbor in 1941 that dramatically affected the use of anaesthetics. See his talk at the link here. https://youtu.be/kbJYVDwsIrE

21.01.2022 Since 2017, Rotary Adelaide has been delivering water projects of benefit to the people in rural Sri Lanka, targeting the areas to the east of Kandy. Depravation has been a feature of life there, further intensified by the long civil war with the Tamil Tigers. People in the area live in small villages from 200 to 600 households and derive most of their income from small scale farming. Water quality is very bad and consequentially, Chronic Kidney Disease has become endemic - s...hortening lives and affecting the social and economic fabric of the region. All of our Sri Lankan projects have been genuine partnerships where the work of a team of people unknown to each other produce an important result. Funds from Rotary District Grants and Rotary Adelaide pay for water filtration plants, facilitated and implemented by members of the Rotary Club of Kandy and their trusted suppliers, which are located on the grounds of the local Buddhist Temple. Local villagers supply the materials and renovate/build the shed which houses the plant, and leadership comes from the local village Head Monk who takes responsibility for coordination, equitable water distribution, on-going maintenance. There has always been tremendous support for our projects from communities in which we have worked leading to requests for filtration plants for other near-by villages. Importantly, our clean water is critical in arresting kidney degradation in these villages, and this has been acknowledged at many levels by village community members. The health and other benefits make this such an impactful project. https://www.facebook.com/rotarykandy #ServeToChangeLives

20.01.2022 This afternoon the Rotary Club of Adelaide welcomed members and guests to a very special Changeover Luncheon. During the lunch we were treated to a showcase of how members have continued to work together, practising leadership across a broad range of local and global projects and events in a spirit of fun, friendship and fellowship. Today the Club recognises the generosity and commitment of members who through "service above self" have contributed to creating impactful engagement, developing ethical leaders, raising our profile and increasing participation, diversity and inclusion of our membership. President Heidi Unferdorben handed over the role of President to Paul Denver who will become the 99th President of the Rotary Club of Adelaide.

15.01.2022 Last year 2020 presented more than its fair share of challenges to our community. One group that was stretched to its' limits was the nursing staff on the Boylan and Adolescent Wards at the Women's and Children's Hospital here in Adelaide. Faced with an overwhelming and sometimes incomprehensible task of healing, these humans continued to turn up to work when the rest of Adelaide was in lockdown! Last Saturday the diligent volunteers from Women's and Children's Health Netw...ork and The Rotary Club of Adelaide come together to pack 70 Nurture Kits full of calming, relaxing and soothing items that will indeed pamper deserved frontline workers. We are genuinely grateful for the dedication and the hard-working staff of the Boylan and Adolescent Wards. We are honoured to be a part of a unique project that can show someone how much we care and appreciate there work through Nurture Kits. Special thanks to The Friends of the Women's & Children's Hospital, SE Waite & Son, Comfort Inn Regal Park, Queen Bee Linen Trading, A Sprinkle of Magic, The WCHN Volunteers, Helen Apoefis, Forever Living and The Rotary Club of Adelaide.
