We are a big club, but three Rotary Melbourne members turning up to the same meeting in the northern hemisphere, unplanned? What are the odds? Happy Friday everyone!

18.01.2022 The Future of Performing Arts A big thank you to our Maestro Dr David Kram AO, for agreeing to be the guest speaker of last week's evening meeting. David collated seven hours of interviews with wonderful artists and directors on the future of the performing arts, into a memorable video.... "David Kram has powerfully drawn our attention to one of the most important foundations of our intellectual, social and emotional well being, music in all its forms. The context of COVID has highlighted many issues, some new, some long-standing. Despite many unsettling themes, the overall tenor (no pun intended) was inspirational." This is something special, do not miss it! Enjoy

18.01.2022 Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Melbourne for being recognised as the highest donating club for all time giving to the Rotary Foundation in Zone 8 (i.e. A...ustralia, New Zealand & Pacific countries). Under the new Zone Awards system it has reached platinum status (i.e. > $US750,000), for club giving, not including personal giving. It is the only club in the zone to have reached this level. Thank you Melbourne for your years of ongoing and generous support of our Rotary Foundation. See more

05.01.2022 ? For the very reasons noted in the attached article: Domestic violence reporting in Australia and the focus on the ‘good guy’. How you, the audience, can change it. https://ab.co/2Jej5yW Every Australian can help to change this story. Become a proactive bystander! Report any victim or possible victim of abuse to 000 or an appropriate support agency eg. 1800 RESPECT.... Rotary SAFE Families is about PREVENTION of abuse. Report and find a referral agency. Talk about it, don’t just be an inactive bystander sitting on your hands, hoping the inevitable won’t happen! We have produced two films so far, plus a comprehensive referenced Manual and Toolkit. The films: Family Violence and its Impact on Children and Elder Abuse are readily available for you to use (see below). Rotary Australia is committed to make a difference to the horrific statistics that we read daily in our media. Do you remember the Traffic Accident Commission’s most famous slogan If You Drink, Then Drive, You're a Bloody Idiot, which was introduced in 1989? This slogan has become a catchphrase in Australia. The campaign has been highly successful in the quest to prevent drink driving accidents, albeit it has taken many years for us to respect the message about drink driving. When was the last time (if ever) you had a discussion about family abuse including elder abuse at your table? We need to talk about it. Yes, it will take time for the acceptance and respect that any form of abuse is Not the Norm! Rotary SAFE Families is about Stopping Abuse in Families Everywhere. SAFE Families is not about pushing the horrific stories of abuse; it is not a blame game but a change game and is focused on the ’: , Watch the films with their powerful messages around learning to recognise abuse, be informed and able to safely raise your concerns and then refer the victim or possible victim, to Police (if emergency) and/or an appropriate support agency in your neighbourhood. Or, talk to a support agency in your neighbourhood to ask their professional advice on locating support for a victim before she/he becomes a horrible statistic. Where to find these films, a contact person and detailed information? https://rotaryclubofmelbourne.org.au/rotarysafefamilies
