22.01.2022 RIP Past Rotary International President Luis Vicente Giay.

22.01.2022 Despite the weather, a few regular stallholders were back at the markets today to help us try out the new Covid Safety rules. Next week we will expect a nice sunny day and more customers too as we gradually get back into the swing of things!

21.01.2022 In 1996, the great African leader Nelson Mandela launched the Kick Polio Out of Africa campaign with Rotary Internationals support, setting out a vision for a ...polio-free Africa. At the time, wild polio paralysed 75,000 children each year. To protect communities from this crippling disease, African leaders, health workers, volunteers, parents, global donors and organizations united to reach every child with polio vaccines. On 25 August 2020, after four years without a single case of wild polio, the African region has been certified free of wild poliovirus. Decades of extraordinary investment has paid off. Yet, the job is not finished. These efforts must continue to prevent wild polio from returning and to end all forms of polio for good both in Africa and globally. #rotaryinternational #endpolionow

16.01.2022 The Governor-General has advised me that The Queen has approved the award of the Victoria Cross for Australia to Ordinary Seaman Edward Teddy Sheean for his a...ctions on 1 December 1942, when he sacrificed his life to save his shipmates during the sinking of the HMAS Armidale. Teddy Sheean was an extraordinary Australian and Australia will remain eternally grateful for his service, dedication and sacrifice.

16.01.2022 Finally a great day for the Sunday Market and we are fully booked with regulars for next week!

14.01.2022 Changeover was a little different this year - smaller well spaced crowd, delivered single serve dinners and no singing of the National Anthem. But despite these difficult times of Covid 19, we shared the achievements of the year past with past president John Sammut and listened with anticipation to the plans for this year with incoming president Lyn Bruderlin. Feedback about RYLA from participant Simon Tang encouraged us all to keep supporting our youth through Rotary scholarships. Assistant Governor Anita Robinson presented the new year banner (Rotary Opens Opportunities is the theme) and also reminded us that we are part of something much bigger than Campsie with a toast to Rotary International.

10.01.2022 Congratulations for being part of history! The Baton Launch is now done and dusted. Our Rotary Centenary is a time to celebrate the past and to create the futur...e. The Rotary Centenary Baton is an important symbol of how we connect today and pass on our legacy to future generations. The online launch of the Rotary Centenary Baton from Government House was a very special event graciously hosted by Their Excellencies The Governor General and Mrs Hurley. Not only did we participate in an important event that makes a mark on history, we were also entertained with 3 world class and famous performers. And you can catch-up with the magnificent event at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdFSoWuKA6U&feature=youtu.be The early bird version has streaming issues that will be cleaned up shortly. But with a soupcon of patience and judicious use of the fast forward button, you can still get excited.

09.01.2022 I was given a present this week from a very lovely friend in my district, thanks PDG Pam It's a Rotary International belt buckle and it was owned by her late husband Trev. It's a touching gift and I love it!

08.01.2022 The times they are a-changing friends! And in all kinds of feel good ways. We have our first female RI President-Nominee (well, not officially until 1 October, ...but whos counting?), we have the worlds very first Rotaract Pride Club in support of the LGBTIQ+ community, and, after decades of work across 47 countries on the continent, the World Health Organisation has declared the African region wild poliovirus-free! In a time when the new normal is the catchphrase on everyones lips, we are loving the look of this new normal! Check it all out in the September edition of Rotary Down Under. See more

08.01.2022 Our deepest condolences to Ralph’s family at this very difficult time.

07.01.2022 Let's see if we can send this message around the world...it does have a stamp after all! Hope you like my latest design. www.facebook.com/RotarianEvanBurrell

06.01.2022 Prior to the 4th August 2020 the people of Lebanon were facing an economic crisis as well as Covid. The blast took out the commercial port of Beirut, causing th...e death of 191 people and injuring over 6,500 with 300,000 homeless. The area of the explosion damaged/destroyed five hospitals, countless schools and commercial and residential buildings, there are critical short and long term problems to overcome. The Lebanese people are known for their welcoming and friendly nature and have been arrivals to our country for over 140 years bringing a richness of cultural diversity. They have supported Australia through wars and natural disasters and as their families have melded into the fabric of our society, so we can feel for the people of Beirut. 03.01.2022 UPDATE: September 24, 2020- a meeting was held in ANZAC Mall with senior Council officers to discuss the issues and practicalities of opening the Sunday Market in a safe way consistent with governmaent guidelines. Greater understanding was gained by all parties and a new Covid Safety Plan has now been lodged by Campsie Rotary and is awaiting a response. We are more hopeful of a positive outcome soon! Until then, we will stay closed until we can comply with suitable arrangements that dont put stall holders, the public or Rotary at risk. Want more information?
