18.01.2022 Paige Horo recently returned from a one year Student Exchange visit to Ollavaria in Argentina. Paige gave her talk, with a large number of slides showing her many activities during the year. She gave a very honest account of her life in a far- off country. School was different and not as structured as in Australia. It was accepted that on some days students may not just turn up for school. And Teachers too!! Paige spent time with three host families and found people very loving and caring. She was sorry to leave her many friends but is happy to be back in Oz and very grateful to Rotary for this marvelous opportunity. Welcome back Paige !

17.01.2022 Yesterday we hosted the 30th Annual ANZAC Day Legacy Golf Day together with the Geraldton Golf Club. The event was cancelled last year due to Covid, but we were back this year for a fabulous day to raise funds for Legacy WA. Since it began in 1991, the Legacy Golf Day has raised over $150,000 for Legacy WA, an organisation that are there for the partners and the children of those who gave their lives or their health for our country. Thanks to all the sponsors who donated both goods and services and a big thank you to all who joined us to play in today's Ambrose competition and joined in the auction fun! Congratulations to the winners!

03.01.2022 Newly inducted Geraldton Greenough Rotary Club president Philip Martin is looking for an injection of youth and more women into the organisation. The Abrolhos Steel owner, a member of the club since 2001, said it was time for a younger cohort to put hands up to boost the ranks. There is a certain responsibility to the community, especially in these tough coronavirus times, a time that has seen some businesses go out of business while others have struggled to survive. That i...n turn has meant less focus on the community, which we serve. The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster a variety of ideals, including developing acquaintances; high ethical standards in business and professions and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world of fellowship. This is what attracted me to Rotary and I trust it will give meaning to many younger people, as they navigate their careers in our wonderful community, he said. Mr Martin replaced outgoing president Geoff Wood who has done a remarkable job during the past 12 months and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow for his work in and around Rotary over many years. Mr Martin made special mention of Geoff’s work, highlighting the success with his setting up the Music for Dementia programme, which is getting Australia-wide recognition and traction. Mr Martin started his journey in Rotary when invited to be a leader, guest speaker and motivator at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards in the late 1990s. His initial move to Geraldton in 2001 continued his fantastic journey of fellowship where hopefully I can continue to make a difference in the community where I reside. I promise you an equally rewarding journey and we welcome all younger businesspeople to come along and experience the community service and camaraderie we enjoy, Mr Martin said. At the inauguration, Paul Harris Fellowships were awarded not only to Geoff Wood, but also Douglas Bruce, Viki Fennell and Terry Stewart. A Sapphire Pin was awarded to Peter Moore. If you are interested in being part of this fun, dynamic and interesting group of individuals whose goal it is to make our community and the world a better place, give Peter Svensson a call on 0429 621 012.
