22.01.2022 Beats Cycle for Hope had a huge night at the 2020 Shark Pitch, last night. A whopping sum of $15000 was pledged. How amazing is that ! This will finance the Rotary program which supports local cancer patients and their families. Well done Mandy McErvale and JoAnna Pitts for standing up and "pitching" to all the virtual attendees. Big thank you to Nicole Carr and United Way Glenelg for putting together such a successful online event. Congratulations to the other 2 proje...cts : Troy Lovett from Leadership Great South Coast, and Harley Doedee from Kyeema Support Services. Thanks to AWA Alliance Bank who provided $4,000 of matched funding for each of the 3 projects. The amounts pledged for each organisation were: Leadership Great South Coast $13,904 Rotary Club of Portland - Beats Cycle for Hope $15,000 Kyeema Support Services $17,010 If you missed out It's not too late to donate >> go to https://www.givenow.com.au/unitedwayglenelg or call 0410 513 305. 22.01.2022 Here is an example of how Rotary International works. A Rotary Club in the U.K. saw the need to financially support a children's hospice. With Covid restrictions, Rotary Clubs worldwide have found it difficult to fund raise. The call went out to all golfing Rotarians to form a team at their local club and play a game and pay an entry fee to the Denby Rotary Club. Best performance wins a prize. Of Course, members of the Portland Rotary Club will be hard to beat. If we win, we will donate our prize money to the cause. With 1.3 M members world wide, we get things done. People of action! That's us.

21.01.2022 Stay connected #sayno2familyviolenceglenelgvic

20.01.2022 Yesterday we helped Portland Community Garden put up bird netting in the PCG Urban Farm area. The 15m wide overhead net went up without any significant issues despite windy conditions and a bleak weather forecast! Wayne Barrett said Huge thank you to Rotary Club of Portland and Lions Club Portland for their assistance. PCG team leader Len Marshall created a plan that worked to perfection. Thank you to all involved and we look forward to hanging the side nets in next couple of weeks. What a great community. If you’re interested in finding out more about Rotary please send us a message. #rotarylife #rotarystory #meetthemembers #rotarydistrict9780

17.01.2022 "Beats Cycle for Hope"are participating in a Shark Pitch event run by Uniting Way Glenelg. See Mandy explain what Beats Cycle for Hope is all about on You Tube. Address to follow

12.01.2022 Tim Smith needed wheelchair access to the rear of his house. Scott MacFarlane Seabreeze Design designed it, Kevin Donovan ( Wild Indulgence) built it for free, using timber from Whiteheads Timber Sales. Whiteheads supplied the timber at a great price. It has been reported that the proceeds of several hundred sausage sizzle sales from the Rotary BBQ trailer paid for the timber. Well done Portlanders, helping us to look after locals in need. #rotarystory #rotarydistrict9780 ...#giving #givewhereyoulive #rotaryresponds See more

10.01.2022 We’ve started planting for our Plot to Plate activity with some onion, corn and tomatoes at Portland Community Garden. We’ve got 2 raised garden beds and 2 herb planter boxes to fill. Looking forward to perhaps another Indian theme night with our own fresh picked organic produce.

06.01.2022 We thank United Way Glenelg for giving Beats Cycle for Hope the opportunity to take part in Shark Pitch. Thank you also to the community for your wonderful support.

06.01.2022 New to Portland? Want to connect with your new community? Well that is easy if you have school aged kids or play sports. The Glenelg Shire office has a list of contacts for your information. But what if you are not in those categories. You have an excess of spare time. In that case why not have a look a the Rotary Club of Portland and see if it might interest you. We are "People of Action" and last year we contributed the equivalent of around $150K to local and overseas organizations to get things done. Contact us on Messenger
