18.01.2022 Congratulations to Chrissy, Cally and the rest of the organising committee of the Somerville Family Day for an outstanding event. Also congratulations to the many volunteers who helped make the whole day a success. The Rotary Club was proud to be asked to participate providing tables, chairs, a marquee for kids' activities and an all day sausage sizzle. Special thanks go to Aldi Somerville who donated the bread and sausages. It was particularly special to see long standing Rotarian, Captain Richard Cox, be awarded the Somerville Community Member of the Year for 2020. The Award was presented by Watson Ward Shire Councillor Julie Morris. A fitting recognition of Captain Cox's years of quiet service to the community on the Mornington Peninsula.
17.01.2022 The Club sponsored and provided volunteers to help with the Reading for Life programme in three Somerville primary Schools in 2019. These were Somerville Primary School, Somerville Rise Primary School and St Brendans Primary School. Having seen the great progress the students made we are looking forward to joining in this outstanding programme in 2020 .
17.01.2022 We were privileged to be asked by Mornington Peninsula Shire to sizzle sausages for the community at the official opening of the new mural in O'Toole Walk in Hastings. The mural honours the life of the highly regarded Hastings resident Dermot O'Toole who was tragically murdered defending his wife from a robber in their jewellery shop in 2013. The event was hosted by Deputy Mayor and Cerberus Ward Councillor Kate Roper and covered by Channel 7 News Report . More detail can be found in the Mornington Peninsula News Group

11.01.2022 Rotary: Honing Job Interview Skills at Flinders Christian Community College. During last week, members of the Somerville Tyabb Rotary Club conducted a series of Mock Job Interviews for 17, year 11, VCAL students at Flinders Christian Community College, Tyabb. VCAL, short for the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning, is designed for students who are seeking a practical work-related way of learning. VCAL delivers a hands-on learning approach, focusing on life ready learni...ng in preparation for the work force. The Mock Interview programme at Flinders College is designed to help refine the students’ letter writing, CV preparation and interviewing skills and ran over two days. It was initiated by Mr Andrew Bylart, the Flinders College VCAL Co-ordinator and Mr Aled Roberts, Youth Director of the Somerville Tyabb Club. Rotarians taking part were President Chris Such, Youth Director Aled Roberts, Dick Cox, Doug McDonald, James Webb, David Chalke, and Friend of Rotary Katrina Chalke. It was really pleasing to see the commitment and enthusiasm shown by the students in their approach to the interviews and it was evident that the VCAL programme is ideally suited to their hopes and aspirations. We wish them all the very best in their chosen careers. See more
