25.01.2022 #OffTheGrid on Saturday 20 June Just over 40 ShelterBox supporters from around the country participated in #OffTheGrid which invited people to camp out in their backyard to brave the elements to raise funds and awareness for ShelterBox who work with refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and those affected by disaster. Donations to #OffTheGrid were matched by a generous private donor. As mentioned in last weeks Bulletin, club member Amanda, her husband George and ...friend Joy Bishop (who brought along her granddaughter, Freya) were going to camp out in Amanda and Georges backyard. The weather on the night was quite good. Very cold, but no wind or rain until the small hours of the morning, when they were already asleep in their tents. They were listed on the #OffTheGrid website as the Colac Campers and raised a total of $2,610. The fundraiser in total raised over $20,000. Amanda, George and Joy would like to thank everyone who generously donated.

23.01.2022 Share the Dignity Campaign started Saturday 1st August and will continue until the end of the month. This bi-annual Dignity drive collects much needed donations of period products to help women and girls in need experiencing homelessness and abuse. Rotary Club of Colac West are volunteers with Share the Dignity and will be helping to collect and distribute the donations in Colac. Local welfare agencies will receive the donations that are left in a designated box at Woolworths... during August. In Victoria we are unable to collect the tampons and pads until the lockdown is finished. Woolworths will keep them until the appropriate time for us to pickup and distribute. See more

19.01.2022 Woolworths and Share the Dignity are partnering in a Dignity Drive this August. The Rotary Club of Colac west are again running the Colac drive for Share the Dignity. This will provide essential support to the growing number of Australian women experiencing period poverty as a result of COVID-19. The impact of the pandemic, has meant that even more women are having to make the choice between buying food or sanitary items. The August Dignity Drive will give customers the opp...ortunity to donate sanitary items via collection boxes. These will then be distributed to girls and women who cant afford to buy sanitary products. WOOLIES will be donating five cents from the sale of every sanitary item to Share the Dignity and for those customers in a position to help, were encouraging them to donate sanitary items at the collection box in their local Woolworths store. This small act of kindness will go a long way to helping thousands of women in need. THE PINK DIGNITY DONATION BOX IS NEAR THE WOOLIES EXIT. THANK YOU.

17.01.2022 The Rotary Club of Colac West lets you all know of the local projects we are involved with. Over the next couple of weeks we thought we would share with you some of the international projects our club is associated with. The first one we will showcase is The School of St Jude. The school was founded in 2002 by Australian Gemma Sisia, who dreamed of helping end poverty in Africa. She proved to be a talented fundraiser by engaging people and organisations such as Rotary. She ...named the school after St Jude; the patron saint of hopeless causes. Gemma established an Australian-run school in Tanzania, built by Australian volunteers and sponsors, the school now boasts more than 500 students. Our club is honored to sponsor a child in this fabulous school. We receive regular updates, newsletters, videos and thank you greetings from the staff and students. See more

12.01.2022 I would like to write this on behalf of the Rotary Club Colac West. Thank you to all the workers from the army, the police, the ambulance drivers, the in home aged care workers, the people who work inside our aged care and disability centres and day programs. I would like to go on and thank the doctors, nurses, orderlies in our hospitals who care for the patients every day but usually at no risk to themselves - they are adapting to a changing world. I would also like to thank... the pathology teams who are working flat out to provide test results to people who have felt some symptoms and done the right thing to be tested. Our club has an ageing demographic and as such many of our members are in the most vulnerable of categories. We have members who are tied up in business that are impacted by COVID19 shutdowns and restrictions. Like the rest of the community we have family members with compromised immune systems, so to our club - keep safe, keep healthy and be happy. To everyone else - mask up, keep your distance and although under those masks we cant see it - keep smiling. and keep safe. Peter Liepins President 2020/21

09.01.2022 Some of our members are camping out tomorrow night to raise funds to purchase disaster relief shelter boxes. We will post some photos as they come in. RECOVERY STARTS WITH SHELTER Their purpose is to provide emergency shelter to families who have lost their home to disaster, enabling them to rebuild their lives. Having somewhere dry and warm to sleep, to prepare meals and be with your family is vital for starting the long process of rebuilding your life. ShelterBox teams wo...rk with disaster-hit families around the world, offering emergency shelter and other essential items to support them in rebuilding their lives. Every disaster is different and so is every community, so we spend time with those affected to make sure we can offer the right support at the right time to help them recover. If you would like to help in the purchase of these boxes please donate now. We thank you for helping our project. See more

07.01.2022 The Humble Rope Club members and guests enjoyed an evening with guest speaker Graeme Creighton and wife Cheryl. Graeme shared his expertise in the ancient skill of rope making which dates back 27,000 years. Ancient Egyptians were the first civilization who recorded and drew about making rope dating as far back as 4000BC, using Nile reed and Papyrus grass.... Polynesians wove rope out of sea grass. The uses of rope are endless and taken mostly for granted in this day and age, using machinery to manufacture it in large quantities, but making it by hand is a real art and uses specialized tools. A Man O War ship is a powerful vessel and uses approximately 33km of rope. Take a moment to think of rope and its daily uses. Thank you for coming Graeme, your demonstration was very interesting!!

02.01.2022 We have a request for all our friends to be on the look out for the following...... "Pam and Jason are on the house hunt yet again due to Logans needs changing and having to get a range of specialised equipment. If anyone hears of any houses coming up for rent that would be disability accessible could you let us know please. We were having help from a social worker but she has rung to say she is leaving her role so we are on our own now looking. We do have a local real estat...e agency helping us look but because we are looking for something so specific its going to be difficult to find. Main things we need in a house is the shower to be disability accessible with a shower chair, 4 bedrooms, no steps at entrances to house or in house, air conditioning and allows pets" Logan who is 22 mths has a disability and this young family needs more space for him and the equipment that is needed for him. They have had numerous applications rejected. Does anyone know of a place they may be able to rent. Thank you. See more
