21.01.2022 Rotarians and friends hard at work at the National Multicultural Festival 2020.
17.01.2022 Late news on this week's meeting - Mon 20 January Our club was invited to oversee parking at McKellar for the home matches of Canberra United football team, which we have now passed on to Ginninderra Club. However, to thank us for our support, and to renew friendships, we are hosting the coach, Heather Garriock (ex-Lake Ginninderra College) and two of the current squad; Hayley Taylor-young and Laura Hughes, along with their PR coordinator, Lachlan. Elite women's team sport in Australia is booming, it would seem, and this will be an opportunity to hear about it - from the inside. I'm sure partners and guests would be welcome, but please keep the President/Secretary informed.
16.01.2022 We had a great start to our year at the 20 January meeting. Firstly the club welcomed its first new member for 2020, Krysha Starre ( see her being inducted by President Kiri, supported by her sponsor, Robyn Pearson). We were then treated to a presentation on women's sport, and women's' soccer in particular, by representatives of Canberra United Football Club; Laura, Lauren and Hayley, accompanied by the Club's Media Officer, Lachlan. The presentation was entertaining, info...rmative and elicited many questions and comments from members. The three young women spoke with candour, confidence and charm and were fine ambassadors for both their club and sport. I was able to organise the session following a chance encounter I had at Mc Kellar Oval with their coach Heather Garriock. I had known Heather at Lake Ginninderra College before her successful rise in the sport and she set it up to say thanks. SAdly a last-minute obligation meant she couldn't join us last night. See more
11.01.2022 The end of the school year is a time when the Club recognises outstanding contributions and achievements by the region's students. At Ngunnawal Primary, Marlise Wray was awarded the Award for Citizenship and her mother was very proud and thanked the club's representative, PP Ian.
07.01.2022 DON'T FORGET THE MARKET TOMORROW - SUNDAY!
05.01.2022 Unfortunately there won't be any face to face meetings while our venue is out of action. Our thoughts go out to the wonderful staff at the Gungahlin Club who look after us so well each week!!! In the meantime we'll be meeting by online conferencing!
03.01.2022 Gungahlin Rotary has come on board for Pop Goes the Muso, an upcoming three-concert series to be held at Yerrabi Pond. The dates and times are as follows: Sunday 8 December 4:30-7:30pm Sunday 2 February 4:30-7:30pm... Sunday 8 March 4:30-7:30pm Pop goes the Muso is an opportunity for our communities to come together, relax and connect with local friends and neighbours. The events are family-friendly, and each will feature 3 musicians as well as a participative arts activity which is suitable for all ages, all under the auspices of the folk from the Belconnen Arts Centre. While we Rotarians may not add much to the quality of the musical entertainment, our reliable BBQ trailer will be sizzling up a crescendo of sausages, an abiding aroma of cooked onions and a fine spread of sauces to cater for all tastes - with cool drinks to wash it all down. Prices are Rotary-cheap and any profits, of course, go to our endorsed charities. New members are always welcome so if you want to see what it's like working with Rotarians in the community, just contact us via the info on this page. Training in sausage-turning is provided at no charge.
02.01.2022 Dear Fellow Rotarians, As the 31 December deadline approached I decided it was time, after over 18 years, to submit my resignation from Rotary to the Club President and Secretary. I have been urged to ease back on my commitments to lower my stress levels - I guess it's a case of 'Self before Service' but I feel I have achieved a lot in and for our club and wish it well as it continues to deliver for Gungahlin. I have found my membership of Rotary to be very rewarding, some...times hard work and often very enjoyable and would certainly encourage anyone to consider joining Rotary and, as one of the team that worked to get our club started even before my own transfer in, to look carefully at Gungahlin Rotary. Given the holiday period ahead, there will be a number of loose ends to be tied up and this Facebook Page is one of them. I'll continue to keep an eye on it for a while yet as the transition process gets underway. I've also asked to be considered as a Friend of Gungahlin Rotary and can be approached for support at upcoming events. Anyway, don't be surprised if the Club's facebook presence goes through a period of change in the coming weeks. See more
01.01.2022 The members of the Rotary Club of Gungahlin wanted to provide a small token to show their appreciation to the Emergency Services including the Ambulance, Fire B...rigade and Police and to all the Medical Practices in Gungahlin, for their care and contribution to the local community. On Friday morning members delivered Anzac biscuits freshly baked by the Supabarn bakery at Casey Market Town for them to enjoy. They were delighted that their commitment to the community was being recognised.
01.01.2022 Our Community Market is on next Saturday behind the Gym at Gungahlin College. The weather forecast looks OK and it's a good time to make an impression on Christmas presents. While you're there chat to a local Rotarian about how you might make a contribution to our club, its community and communities far away.
