23.01.2022 We are collecting plastic lids to be passed on to Envision to be transformed into mobility aids so we have placed a box in the bookshop where you can deposit li...ds from your milk and soft drink lids. Following are Envisions guidelines for the caps they can accept. There is also some information about their project. From Envision We can only use bottle caps with a grade 2 or 4 plastic. So, any with a 2 or 4 on the actual cap (not the bottle) will be fine! The number must be stand alone, not within a code. This will generally include soft drink, water and milk bottle caps. To see if the cap is usable, you can look at the numbers located on the underside of the cap. Any caps without numbers will be unusable as we have no way of knowing what grade plastic they are. We also ask that the caps are please rinsed before they are donated and that no extra plastic, metal or other material is attached. We also cannot accept any larger lids, such as those found on Vegemite or peanut butter jars as they are too difficult to process. -. Hands Turning Waste Into Opportunity Envision Hands is an incredible environmental and humanitarian project supported by Coca Cola, Rotary, Lions Clubs and so many people in the community. Together we will be gathering bottle tops and transforming them into mobility aids and other usable household items. As part of the e-NABLE project, Envision Hands aims to make 100 mobility aids for disadvantaged children and communities throughout India and other 3rd world countries. The Hands Envision accesses e-NABLEs 3D printer designs to make simple, self-powered mobility aids. These devices allow young people and older, to undertake basic tasks such as picking up a cup or holding a fork. The difference is Envision hands are the only ones we know of that are made from recycled bottle tops. Schools Helping kids help kids. Approaching schools directly, we get the children actively involved. They learn about the waste cycle, recycling, and how to become part of the solution. Community/Business/Clubs Working with our community and business partners we are endeavoring to spread the word on reducing waste, whilst gaining their support in both bottle top collection and fundraising activities. Our long term goal is to work with members of the community to make even more hands, one day hoping to have schools making their own recycled hands.

15.01.2022 Oatley Lions members are so appreciative of the support received by our local community including Oatley Oatley West Public Schools, Lugarno, Cronulla & Kogarah... Lions clubs, Hurstville Rotarians, Sutherland Lionesses & individuals for their generous support for the families in western NSW. You need to know that your generosity has helped provide hope for so many farmers families who are struggling due the ongoing drought. Many were brought to tears because of your kindness. As importantly they received a message that people in the city are thinking of them, understand their current plight and the importance of food production to the country. Oatley Lions members took the lead on a project to provide a Christmas BBQ for farmer families in western NSW to send a strong message of support & kindness on one of their Hay Days. 15 Oatley, Lugarno and Cronulla Lions drove to Gallon NSW to deliver the Christmas Bush Bash Event, held on Saturday 14th December. It was an amazingly successful and rewarding event with positive feedback, smiles and tears of appreciation for the efforts of our Lions Clubs, local schools and our local community Over 75 farmer families totalling more than 400 attended the BBQ They received over $30,000 of donations including: BBQ delights from Oatley Lions $11,000 of food & fuel vouchers $5,000 of water 100s of Christmas gifts that were donated by the children of Oatley West & Oatley Public Schools. These gifts were given to the children by Santa which brought squeals of delight, tears of joy and appreciation and helped take families minds off the severe drought that is challenging everyone.
