24.01.2022 Neighbours in Need Rotarians Helping Timor The tireless efforts of two Timorese Rotarians are bringing supplies, sanitary solutions and smiles to those in need ...on this young island nation. Mario DeJesus and Judite Martins, of the Rotary Club of Dili, Timor-Leste, run the small but vital program Rotarians Helping Timor. A major component of their work is accepting sea containers full of goods from Australia for distribution to people in Timor-Leste. They have an agreement with a business in Dili, which allows them to hire a truck, forklift and drivers at a discounted price to remove the containers from the wharf and unload and store them at their premises, free of charge. This huge effort is managed within three days of the container landing at the wharf, in order to save a large daily holding fee. Mario and Judite then distribute donated goods to the many people, groups, schools and others in need throughout Timor-Leste. The Rotary Club of Melbourne, Vic, helps to cover administration and removal costs to support Mario and Judites efforts. Judite has additionally become an advocate and trainer for the Days for Girls program, which provides quality menstrual care solutions to women who otherwise may be excluded from education and employment. She works with schools in Dili and Bacau to promote the program and provide instruction. She has already helped distribute around 700 kits to students with support from Days for Girls groups in Australia, with plans in place to extend the program to Atauro Island next year. Judite also liaises with groups in Dili and Bacau that are making Days for Girls kits to sell to women outside the age limit to receive a free kit. This involves ensuring the quality of kits is maintained and proper education for use of the kits is provided. Mario has taken on the role of managing the ROMAC program in Timor. He liaises with families of children and medical officers and coordinates the paperwork, including passports, customs declarations, airfares and transport to ensure the children arrive at their allocated destination. So far, Mario had organised for 20 children to travel to Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand under the ROMAC umbrella. Mario and Judite also assist with the Timor-Leste Leavers Experience, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Margaret River, WA, and the Lions Clubs of Augusta, Cowaramup and Margaret River, which sees graduates travel to the islands for a combination of adventure and service. Mario and Judite have assisted with transport to and from Atauro and Bacau and arranged accommodation and transport around Dili. They have further helped identify potential projects in Timor-Leste in need of support for inclusion in future trips. Tireless in their service to the community, in 2018 they organised a Christmas party for orphans and disadvantaged children at Timor Lodge, with almost a thousand children and families showing up to experience the fun. In recognition of the work they do, the Rotary Club of Margaret River held a special dinner in their honour, where Mario and Judite were presented with a Paul Harris Fellow. 21.01.2022 Fellowship and adventure on the road As Rotarians, there is always something within us that encourages one to do something different. Combined with the love of ...exploring this fascinating country and its hidden secrets provided the inspiration to establish an Australian Rotary Fellowship for Rotarians with similar interests. The Australian Recreational Vehicle Fellowship of Rotarians (RVFR) was formed, based on the US version where there are several gatherings (musters) in different areas of Australia throughout the year, generally lead by a Rotarian (Boss Drover). We discover fellowship and places of interest not always known to other travellers. Sometimes we host RVFR members from other countries and recently our members have been hosted on musters in Atlanta, US, and Toronto, Canada, at the international Rotary Convention. The Fellowship is divided into zones (districts): Northern (Queensland), Eastern (most of NSW) and Southern (Victoria). In October every year, alternate zones organise an AGM for all members, which last year was in Ballarat where more than 100 members attended and enjoyed a week of exploring and fellowship. If you own an RV, such as a caravan, motorhome, campervan, camper trailer, or prefer to stay in a Cabin, you will be welcome to join the adventure. You will enjoy a wonderful time exploring and sharing fellowship with other like-minded Rotarians. See more

17.01.2022 "A big thank you to Australian Rotary Health for inviting me to speak about my PhD research at their recent Friends & Supporters Research Cocktail Party. It was... great to meet the many brilliant-minded individuals who collectively make ARH the successful organisation that it is today. Also, a special mention to ARH Vice Chairman Mr Kevin Shadbolt OAM who originates from Rotary District 9830, the same district who co-funds my PhD scholarship, alongside ARH. I look forward to future opportunities to continue to share my research undertakings with the broader ARH community and particularly with the Rotarians from Rotary District 9830." - Jason Palazzolo, Funding Partner PhD Scholarship

14.01.2022 "I am so grateful for the experiences I have had while here in rural NSW, and am eternally grateful to the Rotary Club for awarding me with this scholarship, wh...ich has alleviated a significant portion of the financial burden that comes with studying medicine full time away from home. I have no doubt in my mind that the kindness and generosity I have experienced from the Rotary Club, and the wider rural community, will be remunerated in my medical career during the years to come." - Lachlan Jackson, Rural Medical Scholar Find out more about our rural nursing and medical programs: https://australianrotaryhealth.org.au//rural-medicine-and/

06.01.2022 In response to the anti-vaccination stall at the Tasmanian Wellness Expo: Australian Rotary Health are very concerned that an anti-vaccination stall was presen...t at the Tasmanian Wellness Expo this weekend and understands that many people are upset. We share your alarm and would like to stress that Australian Rotary Health DOES NOT support any anti-vaccination groups in any way. The District 9830 Australian Rotary Health committee was a co-organiser along with the West Moonah Community House, however, the exact details of the type of stall were not disclosed in the application. We were shocked to hear that an anti-vaccination group was at the event. Australian Rotary Health has a strong stance on this matter, and we disassociate ourselves with the views expressed by anti-vax groups. Rotary International has spent $1.6 billion on polio, vaccinating 2 billion children. - ARH CEO Joy Gillett OAM
