15.01.2022 Inspiring, heart wrenching, down to earth, were just a few of the comments from those that attended Samuel Johnson’s Love Your Sister presentation at the ...Rotary Club of Numurkah, Rotary District 9790. Love Your Sister is Australia’s hardest working cancer vanquishing charity. Founded by Gold Logie winning actor and Victorian Australian of the Year 2018, Samuel Johnson OAM, Love Your Sister is a million-strong village of everyday Aussies committed to vanquishing cancer with hard science and the best new technologies. Love Your Sister supports personalised treatment for all cancer patients, whatever the cancer, regardless of location, income, or status. Sam was overwhelmed with the support his charity received from Numurkah. Club President Jennifer Rodger announced that the local community, with support from sponsors and the Rotary club, contributed in excess of $10,700 to cancer research. I am so proud of what Numurkah can do, she said. Throughout the evening Sam’s anecdotes of his youth and acting career had people in stitches, while the stories of his sister Connie Johnson OAM and her breast cancer experience saw a number of tears fall in the hall. Connie, who suffered from bone cancer at age 11, uterine cancer at age 22 and finally breast cancer at age 33, finally lost her battle in September 2017, aged 40. Sam was very clear in his message on fighting cancer. Connie used to say, ‘This charity is not for me, Sam. It is for the mothers who are yet to get breast cancer and should not have to say goodbye to their children.’ To join the Love Your Sister cancer research crusade to have 100,000 people sign up to donate $10 per month, go to love-yoursister.giveeasy.org/fcb. Check out the full story on the Rotary Club of Numurkah’s event in the June edition of Rotary Down Under. In mailboxes and inboxes now. #Rotary #PeopleOfAction #RotaryOpensOpportunities #DoingGood
