24.01.2022 Rotary Club of Merimbula immediate past president Andy Thorp and member Shane Osts recently paid a visit to Bemboka BlazeAid camp. They brought with them: . A... washing machine, microwave and sheets and blankets for the volunteers at the camp to use, donated by Social Justice Advocate of the Sapphire Coast. .A generator for use in the camp. Being a 6.5 KVA unit. The camp struggles with the present limited power supplies. . A dual axle trailer with cage. This will be used by BlazeAid to deliver fencing supplies to farm sites where BlazeAid is working, clean ups of burnt fences and equipment on farms and moving equipment between camps. This is one of the essential pieces of gear that makes life much easier for the volunteers and farmers. Later the trailer will be donated to the RFS (Rural Fire Service). The funds for the trailer purchase came from a generous donation by the LAE CITY COMMUNITY of Morobe Province PNG, for bushfire recovery and protection in the Bega Valley Shire. Please have a look at the Merimbula Rotary Club face book page for details of the donation made by the Lae community. I hope in time we can repay that proud community. Many thanks to all involved from BlazeAid. Your efforts will not be forgotten. Pictures of hand over attached. Michael, BlazeAid volunteer Bemboka. See more

19.01.2022 Rotary Merimbula have once again gone the distance to transport a caravan,(life raft), for a bushfire effected family. The round trip on this one was two days and about 880 klms. Rotary volunteer Shane said, it was a little bit windy on the return trip, however the old girl sat well behind the ute. Lets hope that the recipients of the life boat are only in it for a short time and that their home will be built soon. #rotarylife #Rotary #merimbula #bushfirerecovery

12.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020 at Merimbula Article in Merimbula News Weekly 11.11.20. Photo - Pauline Neville, Dalton Neville and Darrell Hegarty. Mr Hegarty is the president and secretary of the HMAS Perth National Association which includes a group of people who served on the ship in Vietnam. For Dalton Neville this year took on extra significance as it was 50 years on November 3 since the loss of two RAAF crew in his squadron during the Vietnam War. Mr Neville said he was honouring... the loss of the crew from the Number 2 Squadron on November 3, 1970 when a Canberra A84-231 failed to return from a mission. "We still don't know what happened. I went out looking for them," Mr Neville said. "There was a pilot and a navigator; they had the call sign Magpie 91. They were over near the Loatian border and had just done a successful bombing mission and made radio contact but then there was no further contact," he said. "The cause of their demise is still unknown. This year is particularly poignant. We were all friends," Mr Neville said. See more
