25.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone Have a Safe and Happy Christmas time

25.01.2022 I'm very excited and proud to announce our clubs decision to join the Drought Relief. We decided to "adopt a town", St. Arnaud, thought to be the epicentre of the drought in Victoria. This voucher program has received a lot of media coverage since its inception in Queensland (Roma). We have applied for and received a RAWCS District grant. Also, we were delighted when we approached the Balwyn Rotary Club, our mother club, and they agreed to come on board as partners. We will... initially distribute 800 x $50 vouchers through our other partner, the Rotary Club of St. Arnaud. These vouchers have the potential of delivering a seven fold multiplier effect. We will participate in a series of projects over a period of time to help the community in providing a holistic approach to meeting their needs. We want to let them know they are not alone. On the 2nd of Feb. The Young Farmers held their Harvest Festival and about ten of our members and partners decided to attend and offer assistance where we could. This was great fun and we helped set up and sell. Our members were also instrumental in the sellout of all Raffle Tickets, beer and wine. It was a Great afternoon. We have already received strong support from the broader community. Xavier college has made a substantial donation similarly the North Balwyn Mens Shed and Trinity Manor (the residents wanted to help those affected by drought and ran a fundraiser specifically for the purpose). These wonderful people have all offered further assistance. These are the reasons we should be proud to be Rotarians. In the future we will be looking for other Rotary Clubs to try and expand the programme to surrounding towns.

23.01.2022 Rotary North Balwyn are piloting a new program with 8 students and 2 Rotarians departing for three weeks in Mongolia. The students will attend two summer camps and enjoy a week of home hospitality. They left last night with Bill and Estelle in charge. We will welcome a team from Mongolia at the beginning of next year.

23.01.2022 An update from our Rotarians in Mongolia: Here we are in Nairamdal Camp. The students do not have access to WiFi and they are kept busy with the camp program. This camp is on a much bigger scale than Nars camp. Yesterday we had the typical Mongolian experience of travelling to the Ghengiis Khan statue then onto a family living in a ger on the steppes. A wonderful experience for all of us.

13.01.2022 The Rotary Club of North Balwyn partners are running a Cake Stall as a fundraising for "Days for Girls" next Friday 9 Dec outside the Commonwealth Bank in Doncaster Road, North Balwyn. As my cooking skills are somewhat less than zero I have experimented with cup cakes made out of the surplus face washers donated for this project and decorated for Christmas. They look bright and cheerful and are something different and will hopefully sell and raise money for this very worthy cause!!!
