24.01.2022 It was great to catch-up with honorary members last night Vernon and Norm as well as long-term member Tom who's been unwell and despite social distancing we're moving forward by assisting the community and stay tuned for a great event that will be announced soon.

24.01.2022 Some great news for the members of the Rotary Club of South Gladstone. Long-term member Tom Stewardson, who has been a bit unwell of late, will be joining us on Zoom this Tuesday night. He's had his Zoom training, links work, and he's 'biting at the bit' to join us - welcome back Tom.

Students in the club complete two community projects per year, international and local, and the night celebrates their contribution to society and acknowledges past students and future... incoming leaders. Bookings are essential. Contact Bruce Hunt on 0427725600 or email [email protected]

22.01.2022 Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent. It’s crucial to eliminate polio from the last three countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.... If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year. Be a part of history, donate today. We’re close to eradicating polio, but we’re not done yet. We still need funds to continue immunization and surveillance efforts. Your gift will get us closer to the finish line. To donate connect here: http://polioeradication.org/who-we-are/

21.01.2022 THE journey to restoring a popular lookout to its former glory began at a Gladstone Regional Council meeting this morning after it partnered with a local rotary group. The Rotary Club of South Gladstone's secretary Michael Comley and treasurer Bruce Hunt fronted the GRC's meeting in order to request funding and commission the project. The Club proposed the construction of a modern lookout facility on Radar Hill to celebrate a historic milestone as a service club in Gladstone.... "We would like to create an enduring contribution to Gladstone's community marking our 50th anniversary," Mr Comley said. "We have identified reconstruction and upgrade of the Radar Hill lookout on Goondoon Street as an appropriate and useful contribution as a community asset." Mr Comley said this project would create a signature destination for Gladstone which provided a panoramic vista of the port, industrial and civic developments. So far the Rotary Club of South Gladstone has committed $15,000 to the project and $35,000 has been committed by the gambling community benefit fund grant program. A future commitment of $25,000 from the Rotary Club of South Gladstone was unveiled during the meeting, with the Club hopeful council could assist funding the project in the future. The estimated total cost of the project is $200,000 which includes contingencies beyond the construction cost. Mr Hunt said they were relying on the Council's assistance. "We simply do not have the resource capability ourselves to complete it without further help," Mr Hunt said. "So we come to the council with requests of permission to build on reserve, assistance to secure $125,000 and for council to manage construction of the Radar Hill Lookout." The project proposal was a nostalgic one for Cr Trevor, who remembered the old Radar Hill lookout, having lived on Auckland Street as a child. "I remember dashing up Radar Hill with some of my mates to the viewing deck up there, so there is some fond memories as an old local," Cr Trevor said. Mayor Matt Burnett said he loved the project and wanted to help the Club obtain the funding. "Rather than try and find the $125,000 in our budget which we have just adopted," he said. "If we have to chuck a little bit in I wouldn't be opposed to that, obviously it would be a full decision of council."

20.01.2022 Another great Rotary of South Gladstone meeting on Tuesday night. The word is a number of local charities and causes are hurting due to social restrictions so please donate where you can and remember it all starts in your own backyard - support local.

19.01.2022 For the past two months our club has mastered Zoom meetings. This muppets sketch reminds me of the first two weeks. Gotta love our members. #rotary #southgladstone

18.01.2022 The horses aren't on the track yet, but punters raised a fantastic amount of money at the Rotary Melbourne Cup Calcutta tonight all in the name of charity, and maybe a beer or two. Congratulations to Gladstone Port Curtis, Calliope, and the award winning South Gladstone Rotary Club for organising a great event. Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, and everyone that bought a horse, and/or took part in the raffles. Have a great Melbourne Cup everyone.

18.01.2022 The beauty of social distancing is the use of Zoom which has allowed our club to have international and national guests like we did last night with News Corp political journalist Annika Smethurst who spoke about her recent experience with the Australian Federal Police raiding her home, the threat of jail time, and how only last week all the charges were dropped. We also heard about the ins and outs of the Canberra halls of power including all the political gossip. Thanks Annika for attending.

16.01.2022 We are so incredibly proud of our Dad/Grandad (Bruce Hunt) who has been listed in the Queen’s Birthday Australian Honours today with an appointment to The Order... of Australia. In the Australian honours system appointments to the Order of Australia confer the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service. The Medal of the Order of Australia has been awarded to Dad for his service to the community of Gladstone. Dad, you give so much of your time, effort and expertise and have done so for years. We are so happy that your efforts are being acknowledged. You have always been and continue to be an amazing role model to us all. Congratulations from all of us, we are so proud of you and love you lots.

16.01.2022 It was great having our District Governor Adele Hughes and Wade Hughes attend the Rotary Club of South Gladstone's meeting on Tuesday night where she not only talked about the current initiatives of Rotary but also presented the club with a plaque honoring 50 Years of service to Gladstone as well as our initiatives that have assisted charities around the world. #rotarysouthgladstone #makemembershipmemorable Picture: Rotary District Governor Adele Hughes and Rotary Club of South Gladstone President David Nunn.

15.01.2022 Last night, the Rotary Club of South Gladstone said thanks to all the hard work of Bruce and Robin Hunt who have dedicated their time tirelessly to not only the Club, but to the entire Gladstone community. Our president David Nunn said "it's our way of saying thanks to a family who have devoted there life to service. There are so many stories where we will never know all the things they have done, but this is a little special way we could say thank you to two lovely people and great role models in the community".

15.01.2022 Notice to all members: Tomorrow night the Rotary Club of South Gladstone will meet again on Zoom and it's a requirement that everyone wears their club shirt and no one, that's no one....is to stand-up.

14.01.2022 On Saturday, the Rotary Club of South Gladstone's president David Nunn inducted Mick Daly (left) as a Paul Harris Fellow. 13.01.2022 The Club held our first meeting last night since March due to COVID-19. Everyone was high in spirits and it was great to catch-up with the boys face to face rather than over Zoom. R.I.P. Zoom, we'll continue to be friendly as we will connect to out of town members past and present as well as guest speakers however, your friendship will now only become an acquaintance. #zoombye #rotary

02.01.2022 What's been realised is our weekly catch-ups either in person or online over Zoom are extremely important for the Club firstly, to keep our contributions to society going, but even more importantly and right now, to have a group of mates that get together and say hello, have a yarn, and even to take the mickey out of each other. #rotary

02.01.2022 Last night the Club had past Gladstone local and current Energy Australia managing director and Reserve Bank board member Catherine Tanna join us on our Zoom meeting. Catherine spoke about Australia's current financial position and what she believes needs to be done to move into a more prosperous future. Many locals will recognise the name as she is the daughter of Reg Tanna (who also attended with wife, Norma) and formally the Executive Vice President of the BG Group (Shell) with responsibility for Shell's LNG during the development of Curtis Island's LNG plants here in Gladstone. Thanks for attending Catherine it was great to have you.
