03.05.2022 At this week’s meeting, club members welcomed Lily Coleman, our club’s Australian Rotary Health Indigenous Health Scholarship recipient, as our guest speaker. Lily, who is completing the final year of a Sports and Exercise Degree at the University of Canberra, provided club members with a progress update. Lily, like all of us, was affected by the global pandemic and had to adjust to studying online from home and was unable to continue working casually.... The scholarship has been of great benefit to Lily and has assisted her to overcome some personal challenges. Lily is currently a Learning Support Assistant at a school and plans to work full-time before commencing a Masters in Physiotherapy specialising in Paediatrics. Lily has been a very worthy scholarship recipient, and our club members were very glad to receive Lily’s final update before she graduates from the University of Canberra this year. For further information about Lily refer to the following link: https://australianrotaryhealth.org.au/lilycoleman Lily is pictured with our club's President, Arnie.

14.04.2022 Since 1988, our Rotary Club has supported various initiatives in our community, including youth, vocational, international, and service programs and projects. In particular, we support: Australian Rotary Health initiatives, which fund medical research and scholarships... the End Polio Now campaign to eradicate polio from our world Youth Programs, which provide teenagers and young adults with leadership and support training through the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) and Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) Programs; opportunities for local and foreign youth to experience life abroad through Rotary Youth Exchange Program; support to our local schools by supporting students with job interview training International Programs, which support our disadvantaged international neighbours in Asia and the South Pacific including Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) Our local community, including disadvantaged youth and the homeless, and supporting those receiving medical care in our public hospital. Our club's initiatives and projects invariably require fundraising, which has been hampered by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We value and thank our community's support to help support our club's projects and initiatives. To this end, our club is participating in the People's Choice Credit Union Community Lottery. 11.04.2022 Collecting plastic bottle lids is an easy, and COVID-safe activity which supports the Lids4Kids Australia initiative to repurpose the lids, which are difficult to recycle through normal recycling channels and end up in landfill. The lids are sorted by type and colour and shredded into filament and the resulting product is then used to make prosthetics for children in need using 3D printers. Our club members are collecting lids, which are washed and sorted and forwarded to this worthwhile initiative.
