20.01.2022 'Always Wadjemup' - curated by Vanessa Smart and Samara King, Wadjemup: Koora Wordel, Kalygool Wordel was developed in partnership with Rottnest Island Authority and supported by the Western Australian Museum through the Emerging Curators program. The exhibition covers aspects of Aboriginal culture and history on Wadjemup spanning from the earliest archaeological evidence of occupation tens of thousands of years ago through to historical use of the island as an Aboriginal prison from 1838-1931. 18.01.2022 New Wadjemup Museum acknowledges Rottnest Island Volunteer Groups. Visitors to the museum are invited to explore the unique and diverse history of the Island through themes including cultural connections, early exploration, Aboriginal incarceration, volunteering, tourism and holidays. The Wadjemup Museum received a $1m refurbishment as part of the Commonwealth Government's National Tourism Icons program. 16.01.2022 Makuru (June/July) The Noongar season Makuru is the wet time with cold squally westerly winds crossing the coast. It is also the beginning of the Warrdong (Australian Raven) breeding season. The Warrdong is an important figure in the Noongar Dreaming as it is believed to be responsible for transporting spirits from the mainland to Wadjemup.

04.01.2022 A big thank you to those members who attended our tree planting day on Saturday 1st August. ~ 3,500 seedlings were planted to complete the salt-marsh rehabilitation project at Herschel Lake. An amazing effort and incredible weather! The project was made possible by an $18,000 Community Environment Program Grant secured by the Foundation. Big thanks also to Michael Sier of Pelagic Marine (Rottnest Barge) who kindly provided subway lunches for our volunteers.
