22.01.2022 'Tis the season. These beauties have been picked from our very own backyard tomato jungle. Lycopene is a plant nutrient valued for it's strong antioxidant properties, and these tomatoes are absolutely popping with it. You'll find lycopene in many pink and red fruits and vegetables (such as watermelon, grapefruits and chillies) and generally speaking: the redder, the higher the lycopene content. Rich-tomato cooked dishes are an excellent source, as lycopene content actually ...increases with cooking. As well as being high in lycopene, these tomatoes are also a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid and potassium- which lends their use to a range of functions that support heart health. One serving of tomato a day (equiv. to a handful of these cherry toms) has been associated with a 30% reduction in risk of heart disease. Tuck in!

Withania has a fairly specific therapeutic window, and with each chocolate containing the therapeutic dose of 5g, an over-indulgence would actually be less beneficial (which means that a second choccy could actually begin to bump your stress response back up). So, um, you're only allowed one.

13.01.2022 * Wise immune words below! * While it is vitally important that we follow the public health measures being shared by the World Health Organization (WHO) and practice social distancing, here are some practices that can support your immune system to be more resilient to infection with the COVID-19. I particularly like the recommendation for gargling or drinking green tea. This recommendation is supported by a study of residents in an aged care facility that found gargling the equivalent of cup of green tea three times daily to result in participants being 15 times less likely (OR 15.7) to catch the flu. Green tea contains polyphenols that have a range of antiviral actions that interfere with the viruses replication cycle (in addition many other benefits!).



07.01.2022 Introducing Withania! Withania Somnifera, or Ashwaghanda, has been used in Ayurvedic and indigenous medicine in India for over 3000 years, and it's application today is very relevant. It's celebrated for its actions as an adaptogen and a nervine tonic- particularly indicated in debility, nervous exhaustion, convalescence and chronic inflammation. (So yeah, it's pretty much a stress buster). Tomorrow night I'm going to be introducing a few more adaptogens- and exploring ways to use them.
