18.01.2022 NOW SPINNING: ANDREW WASYLYK - Fugitive Light And Themes Of Consolation LP. Wasylyk - AKA Scottish musician/producer/writer, Andrew Mitchell - has made various albums under this nom de plume, and they're the kinds of wondrous sounds you can really soak your ears in. This one from 2020 is like a lugubrious geographical tour through his homeland, one that equally evokes rundown council flats and alleyways as it does green hills, rainy days and bucolic landscapes. Musically, let...'s again put it in the non-sensical jazz/not-jazz bracket, as the sonics bring to mind everything from Steely Dan to Pat Metheny to Greg Foat to Talk Talk to the classic Thames TV theme from the '70s. Awesome sounds for a winter's day, and the LP comes with a super-swish and lush booklet giving you photographic visuals for accompaniment. Recommended! Copies available in the shop or online. 12.01.2022 PIANO PIANO - The Vorpal Blade LP. Sometimes considered the second RON RUDE album, PP were basically the band Melbourne post-punk icon (really, read the stories) Ron Rude formed to perform and record his second album in 1980. The last time we had a copy of this, the great man himself caught wind of its presence via someone or other and even paid us a visit to check it out, and what a lovely gent he was. There are plenty of 'rare' and 'legendary' records which don't necessaril...y cut the mustard in the sonic stakes, though this ain't one of them. Mr. Rude's two albums are FANTASTIC gonzo post-punk with a sound caught somewhere - ya know, SOMEWHERE - twixt UK DIY post-punk a la Essential Logic/Homosexuals, Devo and the synth-driven churn of the Screamers.
