24.01.2022 Yass was the first town to receive an EV charging station in a $3 million co-funded partnership between the NSW Government and the NRMA. It's a great location in Meehan Street (opposite the Soldiers Club and next to beautiful Banjo Paterson Park) and Council hopes it will encourage people to stop off and explore regional towns like Yass while they charge their EVs.

22.01.2022 Electric vehicle drivers will now be able to stop off in Yass to plug-in and recharge thanks to a new fast charger rolled out to kick-start the Hume Highway charging network and encourage regional travel. Yass was the first town to receive an EV charging station in a $3 million co-funded partnership between the NSW Government and the NRMA, with 19 more on track to roll out over the coming years. This morning, I helped unveil the charging station (located in the Meehan Street ...car park opposite the Soldiers Club) with Wendy Tuckerman MP, NRMA General Manger of Motoring Operations Dan Maranhao, and Council’s General Manager Chris Berry and Fleet & Procurement Coordinator Adam Baker. It's a great choice of location - close to beautiful Banjo Paterson Park and our great local cafes, restaurants and retail businesses. It will give EV drivers the opportunity to explore what we have on offer in Yass. https://www.yassvalley.nsw.gov.au/our-coun/news/article/861

17.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK 2020 Always Was, Always Will Be.

16.01.2022 Mayor's Message - October 2020 I was honoured to attend a ceremony at the Yass Police Station on Tuesday (29 September) to mark Police Remembrance Day. Each year, 29 September holds a special significance for Police throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands. It is a day for Police to pause to honour officers whose lives have been cut short while performing their duty. ... I have immense respect and gratitude for the men and women on the front line. On behalf of the community, I honour their service and contribution to our safety and protection in the Yass Valley. Read more: https://www.yassvalley.nsw.gov.au/our-coun/news/article/891

16.01.2022 A lovely morning at Thyme To Taste in Yass with Rowena Abbey Yass Valley Mayor to congratulate two community volunteers acknowledged on the 2020 Hidden Treasure...s Honour Roll. The Hidden Treasures Honour Role is an initiative of the NSW Government’s Rural Women’s Network which recognises women for their valuable volunteer roles and the outstanding contribution they provide to regional communities. This important tribute captures and celebrates the unpaid work of women who are ensuring the viability of so many important and crucial community groups and charities. The local women listed on the Honour Roll include Catriona McAuliffe, from Yass, and Carolina Merriman, from Good Hope. Congratulations to these women and thank you for your hard work and dedication to others.

04.01.2022 2020 has been a tough year with a number of challenges but the Yass Valley LGA remains in a good position as one of the fastest growing inland regions in the state. We may be small but we are mighty. Our state's businesses have been holding on through bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic and flooding. Business owners are working hard to pivot and offer visitors a COVID safe place to eat, drink and stay. There are a lot of positive stories coming out of our region and I look for...ward to continuing to work with the NSW Government and Destination NSW to help get tourism back on its feet when it is deemed safe to do so.
