25.01.2022 Happy Birthday to Sport Australia Hall of Fame Member Mike McKay OAM (Rowing). Mike McKay is considered one of Australia’s most successful oarsmen over the long... history of the sport, as can be demonstrated by his results. He competed in five successive Olympics from 1988 to 2004, was a finalist in all and won medals at four of them. He won gold with the ‘Awesome Foursome’ at the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympics, silver with the eight in Sydney and bronze with the eight in Athens. He was also a finalist, finishing fifth, with the eight in Seoul. Mike won World Championship gold with the Australian eight in 1986, with the four in 1990, 1991 and 1998, and won silver in the pairs in 1998. He rowed 16 times for Victoria in the Kings Cup for 13 wins and two seconds. Mike McKay was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2007 as an Athlete Member for his contribution to the sport of #rowing. In light of today's Vic Gov't announcement of the scheduled border closure with NSW, it's advised that all Victorians having either booked accommodation in NSW or planning to book accommodation in NSW amend those plans and stay in Victoria during the regatta. RV are in contact with the Dept of Sport & Rec and DHHS re any travel concessions which may be available for those residents of the border communities which will enable them to cross the border and compete over the weekend if the travel restrictions remain in place. GREAT NEWS; Jan 2 2021 In discussions with the DHHS and as published by the Victorian Gov't, those living in our border communities (i.e. Corowa & Albury) will continue to be able to access the ‘border bubble’ using their driver’s license to prove their residential address. Lake Moodemere sits comfortably within the bubble. This is a positive step forward for next weekend's regatta for those living in our NSW communities and we will continue ...to keep you updated on all relevant developments. In light of the current travel restrictions in place due to the Sydney COVID-19 outbreak, the following permits/ IDs are currently required for those officials, volunteers, athletes and families who are either residents of NSW border communities or are Victorians with accommodation in NSW, or are planning to enter NSW (and return) during the regatta period. Border (Green Zone) Residents. You do not require a permit if you ...reside in one of the Border LGAs listed; https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/victorian-border-crossin You must carry photo identification that shows your address such as a driver licence as evidence of you residing in an exempt local government area. If you are under the age of 18, you do not need to produce identification that shows your address. Victoria Residents staying in/ visiting NSW. You require a COVID-19 Border Entry Permit. https://www.service.vic.gov.au/services/border-permit/home For multiple border crossings, choose the "recurring traveler" option in the application. Accompanied Under 18s need to be highlighted but do not require individual permits. Travel and quarantine restrictions are in place for anyone having visited from the NSW Red and Hot Zones.
