24.01.2022 WORK RESTRICTIONS - STAGE 4 LOCKDOWNS Latest information on workplaces.

23.01.2022 Today we mark one year since the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months. Today we reflect on the devastation and challenges that followed 21 November and the incredible support from all emergency services who came together to aid the communities impacted by the unprecedented fire season. 22.01.2022 National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to say a very BIG THANK YOU to all volunteers who give their time to helping their communities when we need them most.... The 2019/20 fire season brought incredible challenges, which we couldnt have faced without the critical role of CFA volunteers. CFA volunteers are our friends and family and take on many roles to fulfil our mission of protecting life and property. Thank you, not only this week but the 365 days of the year you are there for each and every one of us!

22.01.2022 19 years ago, the world changed forever and that tragic day will never be forgotten. As we wind down from another week, at the same time in NY 19 years ago, 246 people woke from sleep in preparation for their morning flights while 2,606 people woke up in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters woke up in preparation for their morning shift, 60 police officers woke up in preparation for morning patrol and 8 paramedics woke up in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. Not one of these incredible brave men and women saw past 10:00am on Sept 11, 2001. Tonight at 10:45pm EST (8:45am in NY) marks the 19th anniversary of the September 11 Terrorist Attacks. Raise a glass for our fallen heroes who did not make it home at the end of today.

The northbound lanes of the South Gippsland Freeway are also being re-opened. Traffic remains heavy on many roads through Dandenong, Endeavour Hills and Hallam - including the Monash and South Gippsland freeways, Stud Road, Heatherton Road, the Princes Highway, Power Road, Frawley Road and the South Gippsland Highway. Allow extra time for your journey and please be courteous to other drivers as things return to normal ------------------------- UPDATE 3.15pm The Monash Freeway remains closed inbound between Heatherton Road and EastLink, for police investigations. Thank you for your patience. You need to plan ahead for the afternoon peak and you should slip off the freeway as early as you can to take the Princes Highway through Dandenong. Please be patient and obey the freeway signals. Don't drive in lanes with the large red overhead and never drive down the emergency lane. The South Gippsland Freeway is also closed northbound at the Princes Highway, to prevent drivers getting caught on the Monash Freeway. The freeway will re-open when Victoria Police investigations are complete. #victraffic ------------------------- UPDATE 12.30pm All inbound lanes of the Monash Freeway remain closed at Heatherton Road due to a police incident near Eastlink. Inbound delays on the Monash Freeway are pushing back to Belgrave-Hallam Road. Northbound delays on the South Gippsland Freeway are now back to Pound Road. The best alternative is to use the Princes Highway and re-join the Monash Freeway via Jacksons Road or Wellington Road. Allow extra time as the Princes Highway is slow going both directions through the area. Southbound traffic on Eastlink is unable to enter the Monash Freeway to head citybound. 19.01.2022 In memory of fallen firefighters Every year on the Sunday closest to St Florian's Day (4th of May) we would have paused to remember the fallen firefighters who ...died in the line of duty at the CFA Memorial Service. COVID-19 has made it impossible this year, however, we would like to pay a special tribute in any way we can. 79 CFA firefighters have lost their lives in the line of duty (this includes 11 from pre-1944 who died prior to the formation of CFA under the Country Fire Brigades Board). We would like to also pay special tribute to our colleagues from DELWP, NSW RFS and the United States who tragically lost their lives battling this summers bushfires. We remember them. 2019/2020 fire season: Victorian firefighters Bill Slade, Mat Kavanagh and David Moresi. New South Wales firefighters Geoffrey Keaton, Andrew ODwyer and Samuel McPaul. North American firefighters Ian McBeth (Montana), Paul Hudson (Arizona) and Rick DeMorgan Jr (Florida) who travelled from the United States of America to help Australia in its time of need. We are forever grateful and thank you for your sacrifice keeping us safe

19.01.2022 For those who leave but never return. For those who return but are never the same. We remember.

19.01.2022 CFA was humbled to receive millions of dollars in donations over the 2019/20 fire season. Highlights include millions of dollars for brigade equipment, a new leadership and development program for volunteers, ten mobile community education vans and mobile tablets for online volunteer learning and training. Ask if they are ok, and be prepared if they say no.... the R U OK day website at www.ruok.org.au has a plethora of tools and simple to follow guides to help you. Its ok not to be OK. Remember we are all in this together, and together we will emerge stronger than ever before.

16.01.2022 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT The Rowville Fire Brigade has a rich history of serving the community since we first opened in 1942. Since then the Rowville area has changed immensely, meaning we have also had to adapt, and to this day we continue to do so. The 25th of May 2014 was a historical date for the history of the Rowville Fire Brigade, as we became an integrated station, meaning it became manned by career staff 24/7 to further support the community. The inclusion of Career... Firefighters was an addition to the long, proud history of the Volunteer Firefighters who solely served our community, at that time, for nearly 72 years. The 1st July 2020 is set to be another historical date not only for Rowville Fire Brigade but for Victoria's Fire Services in general. Victoria will see an amalgamation of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and the Career Firefighters, Officers and the majority of paid employees of the Country Fire Authority. They will be known as Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). This change will have an impact on the Rowville CFA. The 25 Career Firefighters and Officers who are appointed to the Rowville CFA will be leaving the Brigade to become the inaugural employees of Fire Rescue Victoria Station 86. The remaining 39 unpaid members remain as Volunteers of the Rowville CFA. This change will see the appointment of a Captain to lead the brigade, and we welcome and congratulate Cien Pereira to this vital position. She is supported by a leadership team of 4 Lieutenants each with their unique portfolio of responsibilities. 1st Lieutenant Raymond Ben - Operations; 2nd Lieutenant Chris White Training & Juniors; 3rd Lieutenant Andrew White Vehicles & Equipment, 4th Lieutenant Jordan Wishart Community Safety & Recruitment. FRV Station 86 and Rowville CFA will be co located at our current home of 1063 Wellington Road, Rowville, where Career & Volunteer Firefighters have been since 2014. Regardless whether paid or un-paid, volunteer or career, CFA or FRV, the service to the community is our highest priority and we will continue to provide you, the residents of Rowville and surrounding suburbs, with the service you have grown to know and rely on at time of need. A world class leading emergency service and Emergency Medical Response for the containment and suppression of all types of fires and Emergencies. Please join us in celebrating this historical milestone in the history of Rowville Fire Station & Victorias Fire Services and also join us in thanking career firefighters for being a part of Rowville CFA as they branch away to FRV. #weworkasone #FRV #CFA

16.01.2022 ***** Back Due to Popular Demand ***** On Wednesday 29th April 2020 at 5:40pm a number of Brigades across the State including Rowville Fire Brigade will be sounding their Brigade Station or Truck Siren four times as a mark of respect to the four Victorian Police Officers who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty last week. #emergencyservicesfamily #victoriapolice #cfa #weworkasone... 16.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Ko...ala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels. Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes

14.01.2022 From 11:59pm Wednesday 5 August, workplaces in Melbourne must be closed unless: > the workplace is part of a permitted activity, or > all employees are workin...g from home. Employers requiring their staff to attend a work site must issue a worker permit to their employees this is the employers responsibility. Employers can issue a worker permit to their employee if they meet all of the below criteria: > the organisation is on the list of permitted activities > the employee is working in an approved category for on-site work > the employee cannot work from home. In rare circumstances an employee does not need a worker permit. This includes: > if an employee is at risk at home, such as at risk of family violence > law enforcement, emergency services workers or health workers who carry > employer-issued photographic identification, which clearly identifies the employer. An employee must not use a worker permit, even if they have been issued one, if: > they test positive to coronavirus (COVID-19) and are required to self-isolate > they are a close contact of someone who has tested positive. More on issuing a permit: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/permitted-worker-scheme-covid-19

12.01.2022 Our crews are on high alert after finding 42 unattended campfires on a day of Total Fire Ban at popular camping areas along the Murray River between Yarrawonga ...and Cobram, Murrindindi Scenic Reserve and Lake Eildon on Sunday (27 December). These actions are placing the community, firefighters and the environment at risk. With hot and windy conditions forecast during the New Year period, we are reminding people to follow the rules when it comes to campfire safety to help prevent bushfires from starting. Campfires must never be left unattended and should be completely extinguished using plenty of water. If the fire is cool to touch then it's safe to leave. Campfires must never be ignited on Total Fire Ban days, as fires are likely to spread rapidly and be difficult to contain. 10.01.2022 Are your coals cold A lucky homeowner has his quick thinking neighbours to thank, after they noticed a fire coming from the roof of his house last weekend.... After clearing out their fire-pit in the morning and putting the ash/coals in the bin, this homeowner went out later that day and returned to 5 CFA appliances , 2 melted wheelie bins and 2 quick thinking neighbours who jumped the fence earlier and using a couple of garden hoses extinguished the fire, preventing extensive damage. Lilydale CFA was supported by Chirnside Park Fire Brigade - CFA and Mooroolbark Fire Brigade - CFA Winter months are a timely reminder for residence to ensure they're disposing of any hot ash from wood fires safely and responsibly. Place ash in a metal container, using a metal shovel or another appropriate tool. Never use flammable materials for ash disposal, such as plastic bags, paper, or cardboard boxes. Place the metal bucket outside, and pour water into it to douse any hot embers. Keep in mind that hot coal or wood can smoulder for days. After adding water, stir the ashes, so that all of the bucket's contents are wet. Place the ash bucket away from flammable materials, and tightly secure the lid. Do not put the metal container on a wooden floor or any other type of flammable surface. If you vacuum remaining ashes out of your wood stove, only use a vacuum that is especially designed for the purpose of removing hot and cold embers. Safely transport the secured metal container to your nearest waste facility as required; OR Place cooled, moist wood ashes in your compost bin to improve the compost for your gardens. Hot ashes joined a number of unsafe items that should not be placed into wheelie bins including batteries, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, construction and demolition waste, large electrical appliances and gas bottles.
