17.01.2022 todays mental well-being tip.... Become more aware of your thoughts and feelings If you do feel stressed or anxious stop and notice these feelings and let them... be there. This might sound strange as we naturally want to get rid of uncomfortable feelings, but sometimes when we try and fight how we feel we actually create extra tension. Try saying to yourself I notice Im feeling stressed out. As soon as you say this you create a slight separation between your feelings and the part of you that is observing them. It can help to lessen panicky or unpleasant feelings. Notice the voice in your head, how do you talk to yourself? What is your thinking style? Do you find yourself thinking negative thoughts? Maybe you can challenge them and look for more positive alternatives. See more

12.01.2022 Thursday 10-09-2020 **************** "Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves." ~ Mari...e Curie There is rising tension across Victoria, with many feeling at the end of their tether. Frustrated and weary, tolerance of the impost of restrictions is taking its toll. Patience is being tested. As hard as it is, as many issues people might have with how the pandemic has been handled to date, there is one key goal we must remain focused on getting the active cases numbers to the lowest most containable level we can as soon as we can. Here in the outer east, we are doing our part and it is highly possible we can get to zero cases if everyone stays on course a little longer. As expected, the numbers have improved from yesterday, returning to the levels we saw earlier in the week. Well done all. **************** UPDATE RE TODAYS NUMBERS: 51 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday (a decrease of 25). 1483 - total number of active cases (decrease of 139). Rolling 14 day new case average (metro) 70.1% [Goal to get to 30-50 by 28/09] 19,728 cases of coronavirus in Victoria since the start of the pandemic. This is 40 more than yesterday as 11 cases were reclassified. 197 active cases across Knox and the surrounding 8 municipalities, 19 less than yesterday. The region accounts for 13.3% of Victorias active cases. There were 9 new cases across four LGAs in the outer East region. The other 5 LGAs remained unchanged. The new cases by LGA were Knox (nc), Cardinia (nc), Casey (+3), Greater Dandenong (nc), Manningham (nc), Maroondah (+1), Monash (+3), Whitehorse (+2), Yarra Ranges (0). Mystery cases decreased by 31 taking the total since the start of the pandemic to 4306 cases. 14,805 tests were processed over the past 24 hours taking the total number of tests processed to 2,443,583. ******************** THE GOOD NEWS: Great to see new daily cases back around the 50 mark (40 after reclassification of 11 cases) Todays daily positive test rate is 0.27%. This is very encouraging. 88.6% of people who have had coronavirus have recovered from the infection. (17484 / +173 from yesterday). 81% (1202) of the current active cases are attributed to transmission from contact with a confirmed source. 16% (232) active cases are currently unknown / mystery cases. There are also 49 active cases under investigation. 763 active cases linked to aged care outbreaks, 66 less than yesterday. Half of all Victorian active cases are linked to an aged care outbreak (51.5%). There are 251 healthcare workers currently infected with coronavirus, 1 less than yesterday. New infections among healthcare workers rose by 24. Infections in health care settings are delicate to manage and present the greatest challenge to eradicate quickly. This is going to be a slow tail to eradicate. There are 169 people in hospital with coronavirus, which is close to the number in hospital 6 weeks ago. This represents a reduction of 27 hospital patients since yesterday. There are 17 people in ICU (-3), and 11 people are on ventilators (-1). Improvement in active cases in a residential disability setting with 16 cases reported today, 1 less than yesterday. There are now 10 staff / 6 residents currently infected. ************************ THE NOT GOOD NEWS: 7 deaths were reported today. Of those who passed away five were men (4x70s, 1x80s) and two women (2x80s). Four of the seven were residents of aged care homes where there were outbreaks. We are saddened by the loss of loved ones under these terrible circumstances and offer our deepest sympathies to family and friends impacted by the loss of loved ones at this time. 546 (78%) of Victorias coronavirus attributed deaths are also linked to Aged Care outbreaks. ***************** WHATS HAPPENING LOCALLY? We have much to be proud of as everyones sacrifices are paying off. Numbers in our region continue on a steady trajectory, reducing since yesterday by 19. Seven of the LGAs saw reductions, one remained unchanged and one increased by 1. It seems that Maroondah and Knox are going head to head in the race to zero. Whilst we can have a bit of fun bantering across the individual LGAs, realistically this is a team effort not just for our region but for all of metro Melbourne. I report on Knoxs neighbouring LGAs because many Knox residents work or have family / friends in these areas. Likewise, Knox has people who work here but live in those other areas. We cannot ignore the connections we have further afield. Therefore, as the clich says we are in this together. ACTIVE CASES x LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA: KNOX 5 (down 1) Cardinia 15 (down 1) Casey 73 (down 7) Greater Dandenong 49 (down 4 ) Manningham 6 (down 1) Maroondah 5 (down 1) Monash 25 (down 5) Whitehorse 10 (up 1) Yarra Ranges 9 (no change) The source of these numbers is the DHHS covid data report as at 10-09-2020. You can view the data via this link - https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-coronavirus-covid-19- ACTIVE CASES x POSTCODE DATA (as at 10/09/2020) Great news, Knoxs active cases have reduced again now sitting at 5 active cases and contained to two postcodes within our municipal boundary. I have faith that Wantirna / Wantirna South and Boronia will be virus in a matter of days. Our task will then be to ensure we do not let this get out again, by being more aware of symptoms and therefore testing and isolating earlier, not letting it spread. Remaining vigilant with covidsafe practices will also be a key to us remaining virus free. 3178 [Rowville] 0 (no change) 3179 [Scoresby] 0 (no change) 3180 [Knoxfield] 0 (no change) 3152 [Wantirna / Wantirna South] 3 (-1) 3153 [Bayswater / Bayswater North] 0 (no change) 3154 [The Basin] 0 (no change) 3155 [Boronia] 2 (-1) 3156 [Ferntree Gully, UFTG, Lysterfield] 0 (no change) You can view the data via this link - https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-coronavirus-covid-19- or on at https://covidlive.com.au/vic/postcode ******************** LOCAL OUTBREAKS: No new outbreaks advised of. Total Resident cases: 6 (no change) Total Staff cases: 10 (-1) Active cases in NDIS homes: 16 / incl 6 residents Active cases in transfer homes (State regulated/funded*): 0 Active cases in state government delivered and funded homes: 0 The total number of individuals receiving disability accommodation/respite services in Victoria is approximately 6,500. ****************** KEY POINTS OF INTEREST TODAY: Todays press conference had a different vibe about it. There was a definite sense of tension from the outset. It wasnt until question time that the dynamics made sense. I will share my key takeaways with you Curfew. After delivering the update re daily numbers, the Premier explained the reasoning for introducing a curfew. It was two fold limit movement and facilitate ease of compliance monitoring / enforcement of CHO public health orders. As Leader of the Government, the decision rested with him and he is ultimately responsible for it. Prof Cheng reiterated the value of the curfew in the suite of efforts to control the virus. When asked directly whether he endorsed the curfew remaining as per the road map, he answered firmly absolutely. During question time, the journalists were relentless with questioning regarding who gave the advice that the curfew should be introduced and were pressuring for commitment to have it lifted. The Premier was clear when he said Were not removing it because it works." Transparency and accountability is essential at all levels of Government, and Journalists have a role to play in holding authorities to account. However, this format of questioning and attack is not constructive and only serves to destabilise a fragile society when we are so close to achieving our collective goal getting control of this virus. Worksafe. The Attorney General gave an update re Worksafe efforts re covid. A few facts shared 3302 enquiries &/or visits have been made to high-risk workplaces. 300 improvement notices have been issued. There have also been prohibition notices issued and there are 30 organisations currently under investigation. There have been 297 workcover claims submitted and approved 50% are covid related the other 50% relate to mental health issues. The Attorney General was confident everything is being done to ensure industries and businesses appreciate the importance of their role in ensuring a covid normal state of opening our economy is possible. The Road map targets. The Deputy Chief Health Officer said reaching the targets and dates in the Road map to Recovery presented to Victorians, was not an absolute hard and fast rule and the public health team would continue to assess the data and make judgements when it will be safe enough to relax restrictions. He went on to say the dates in the road maps are like due dates in a pregnancy only 5% of babies are born on their actual due date, and theres a range before and after. It wasnt clear if this statement was meant to give hope that restrictions could potentially be lifted sooner than in the road map or preparing the way for extension of some. No point over thinking this now. Stay on course and hope for a more favourable outcome. Thats probably the most interesting bits from today. Many of the other questions were just irritating to listen to and didnt offer anything of any substance in terms of dealing with the virus. Take care all, keep positive. Nicole. ************************************************************* DAILY REMINDERS: Please remember: IF YOU ARE SICK OR SHOW ANY SYMPTOMS OF COVID PLEASE STAY HOME! IF YOU HAVE BEEN TESTED AND ARE WAITING ON YOUR RESULTS - PLEASE STAY HOME! IF YOU HAVE THE VIRUS OR ARE A KNOWN CLOSE CONTACT OF SOMEONE WITH THE VIRUS PLEASE STAY HOME! FIVE ALIVE These are the 5 key things we must all do: 1. Practice Social distancing - keep 1.5m apart 2. Wear a mask / face covering 3. Practice our hand hygiene 4. Demonstrate Cough & Sneeze etiquette 5. Stay at home unless for the 4 permissible reasons. If you are leaving home, try and stay local to your immediate neighbourhood, suburb &/or municipality. Remember you are not allowed to travel more than 5kms from your home for shopping or exercise. The only permissible reasons for traveling further than 5kms from home is for essential work, medical care and care giving. For more information - https://www.vic.gov.au/node/13332 ***********
