25.01.2022 BECK JORI I met Jori and Beck at a wedding fair @adarlingaffair and as soon as I saw them I felt my heart flutter as they were just so blinkin cute. We had a quick chat, and I liked their energy immediately. We met up a few weeks later at one of my favourite bars @fitzandpotts and I learnt a bit more about them. Their story was one which started at school, and in their years together, theyd grown at different rates, before finally coming to the point where they were re...ady for marriage. 23.01.2022 LIZ DAN Last Saturday I wasnt meant to be in Maleny marrying Liz and Dan. In fact, until the previous Thursday, I didnt even know who Liz and Dan were. You see Liz and Dan had met and booked another celebrant, the hilarious and chilled I Kidd, You Knot - Laura Kidd- Marriage Celebrant who is also a member of The Celebrant Society... However, the wedding industry currently feels like working inside a tumble dryer and things change almost constantly with new regulations and border closures impacting wedding plans. As a result, Laura, whom Liz and Dan had truly bonded with, couldnt do their ceremony. Laura was gutted and ask me if Id step in for her. I was honoured. I could tell Laura was really upset she couldnt do it as she felt very bonded to Liz and Dan. I jumped at the chance to help her, and assured her Id try my best to do her - and them - proud. The words I read at Liz and Dans ceremony were Lauras. It was a top ceremony - funny, relaxed, with a little bit of romance in there for good measure. Guests laughed, Dan laughed, Liz laughed... I laughed. Endorphins were running wild. Thank you Laura for trusting me with your work. It was an honour and I can totally see why you bonded with Liz and Dan - a truly top couple. 12.01.2022 Its been a funny old time to be a celebrant. In Queensland, us celebrants had a pretty tricky week last week as we tried to understand what the new public gatherings direction actually meant for weddings in parks, beaches, backyards etc. Im going to be honest here... I struggled. I had half a dozen couples who were asking me for help to interpret the directive, and I couldnt help them properly as there was so much confusion. I hated it. I hated letting my couples down, I ...hated not knowing, I hated feeling useless. Then, on Thursday, clarification came from Queensland Health. Finally I knew what to say to my couples. Finally I didnt feel as useless anymore. It was a slight wobble in my celebrant career. Im usually a robust kind of person, but this one rattled me. I wondered whether I was really a good celebrant or whether Id been bluffing it all this time. There was a moment (albeit a very short one) where I wondered if it was all worth it. Then I received an email in my in-box from a couple I married a couple of weeks ago, Tanya and Mannan. It was the most wonderful email, truly full of happiness and love and all the good stuff. There was a paragraph in there that rid me of any doubt that this career is the right one for me. I feel strong again. I feel in control again. I feel happy again. Thank you Tanya and Mannan for helping me find my mojo. I did not know how I was going to feel on the day, but as you saw it was just joy. You are part of the reason for that joy. You went above and beyond for us from the moment we met you, I can't imagine it being even a quarter as great without you. 11.01.2022 THIRTEEN YEARS On this very day, 13 years ago, Danny Brown and I became Mr and Mrs. By the time we got married wed already been together for seven years and had bought a home in Battersea, London. We were committed, that was for sure.... However, although Danny had asked me to marry after three days of getting together, it took us those seven years to grow up and really be ready to commit. Our wedding day was light and stress-free, our celebrations held at our beloved local pub. It was in no way fancy but what it lacked in style it made up for in genuine happiness. I remember at one point rubbing my cheeks as they were painful from smiling. As I get older my love for Danny Brown changes. Hes still a spunk, but its more than that. I trust him completely, and we know each other so well. In the nearly 20 years together I can read him like a well thumbed book and visa versa. We know when the other needs space, when a hug is required, when to speak, and when to listen. We argue sometimes, but we forgive easily and we dont hold grudges. Allow me to introduce you to my bicycle family: Lady: A chunky purple mountain-bike, used mainly when I would cycle to work in London on rainy days. She aint pretty but shes built like a tank.... Cecil: A fold up bicycle, perfect for short journeys where Im also travelling in a car at some point. Hes slow as anything and not the most comfortable of rides, but hes a dependable old boy.
