19.01.2022 Flowering Friday this week is the magnificently fragranced Magnolia champaca. Also known as champak, this tree loves tropical environments. The flowers are hig...hly popular due to their strong and lasting fragrance, frequently used as a natural perfume by women to wear or to scent rooms and small spaces. It can be used as a dense screening hedge, an ornamental tree or purely for its strong smelling flowers. It is also popular in timber production to create furniture and cabinets due to its nicely coloured wood. It is highly attractive to birds and insects. You will smell this plant before you see it in the Southern Africa Collection, along the path next to Gardens House in Melbourne Gardens. #FloweringFriday #rbgv #melbourne See more

18.01.2022 Flowering Friday this week is Epacris longiflora, also known as Fuchsia Heath. The long slender tubular flowers may be seen on the plant throughout the year but... in winter their rich colours brighten up the garden and they provide nectar for the honeyeaters. This open shrub grows naturally in near coastal heathlands of mid and northern NSW and far south Queensland. Happy to grow in the garden, or in a container, it requires dappled shade but doesn’t like to dry out. This plant can be seen in the Home Garden at Cranbourne Gardens. See more

08.01.2022 Not all climbers need a big trellis to grow on! Flowering Friday this week is the Pandorea jasminoides ‘Southern Belle’, it is a smaller growing variety of the ...beautiful, large flowered climber. It grows very well in a container. Pruning will encourage long lasting flowers on the new shoots and keep it shrub-like, or train it over a small frame. See this plant growing in an urn in the Water Saving Garden at Cranbourne Gardens. The genus has indeed been named after Pandora of Pandora’s box fame in reference to the many seeds that are released from the seed pods! #FloweringFriday #royalbotanicgardensvic #rbgv See more
