22.01.2022 Not gonna lie....we suck at the PR/Hype game. You can call it being precious or indie or arty or whatever, but anything that starts to resemble "trying too hard" or even "trying....at all" automatically trips alarm bells and we just shut down. It would be so much easier to just be confident and say 100%-irony free "WE ROCK AND OUR NEXT SHOW IS GOING TO MELT YOUR FACE" but nooooo, we just stare at the ground awkwardly and say "come to the show, maybe, if you want, if you can m...ake it, or not, whatevs." Now multiply that Imposter Syndrome feeling by a factor of 10 when there are real things going on in the world: Australia is one fire. WWIII is knocking at the door. [insert your fav disaster here] and yeah, it can be hard to rev the engines when it comes to self-promotion. When Minor Crush came out it was all we could do to send out even a few cursory emails, with feelings of "what is the point?" being completely overwhelming most days. All of that was a roundabout intro to saying that it made our week, along with making our hearts completely melt, when we got our very first piece of fan mail in the post on Wednesday. Massive thanks to Eloise, our #1 fan in Brisbane who is getting ready to rock the socks off of Grade 2 next year. There's a tshirt and some new RC stickers headed her way once our new box of merch arrives next week. Sometimes it's the little things xoxo
20.01.2022 .:: BUST A MOVE FOR HUMP DAY ::.. Here's "Welcome To The Mumble" to help you get your mid-week jam on xoxo
19.01.2022 Hey all, instead of doing our normal routine regarding yet another Royal Chant single from yet another upcoming Royal Chant album we decided to try, in our own small way, to use our voice help affect change in any way we can. We've coupled our latest single, "Plastic Soul", with a Bandcamp-only cover of "Superstar" along with another RC rarity and are donating all proceeds from their sale to Change the Record and Black Rainbow. Change The Record address the root causes of In...digenous incarceration and works to prevent imprisonment. Black Rainbow advocates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBQTI communities. We're publishing this right now, at 5 PM AEST because that means Bandcamp Friday has just kicked off and thus 100% of all sales will go directly to the artists/charities. Thanks for listening and big love to all xoxo https://royalchant.bandcamp.com/album/superstar-plastic-soul
18.01.2022 Hey all, welcome to the weekend with a heads up about trio of East Coast dates we have coming up at literally our favourite venues, coz we are a glutton for punishment and just can't help ourselves. We can't stay off the road for too long or things start going haywire for the management upstairs. Next Friday night we're heading up the road to the Federal Hotel Bellingen where we'll be hosting a small Hot Tropics reunion of sorts when we take the stage with Seafome. Henry Dea...n opens up the night with a svelte acoustic set and then we slowly turn things up from there. All the melodies, all the good moves. After recovering during the week we're heading south to Newcastle for an opening slot at the Small Room/Warehouse at the legendary The Cambridge to warm up the room before being followed by sweet sets from Honey Hills, Mango Avenue, and headliners Loons. The Newcastle scene just keeps getting better and better and if it sounds like we're trying to be considered "Newcastle-adjacent" you wouldn't be wrong. Lastly, it's back to our favourite haunt The Townie to take the stage between openers The Rucksacks and midnight headliners Just A Number for their single launch. We've got sexy shirts and new stickers + all the highs and none of the lows. Come out to see what we're singing about these days and take your new favourite song home with you xoxo
18.01.2022 Hey all, First and foremost: we hope that you and your loved ones are safe & healthy right now. That is literally the only thing that matters, and the only thing that will continue to matter long after this surreal fog has lifted. We all might be at various stages on the crazy scale, obvs, but as long as we are alive then we can see this through to the other side. Honestly, music PR and whatnot seems very pointless to us at the moment (which happens occasionally even at the ...best of times), but the act of making and sharing music has never felt more vital, so.... This Friday night we are joining the line-up for the the Good Friday edition of the Original Sound Lounge live-stream, and we are equal parts nervous and excited. We invite you to tune in wherever you are currently quarantined and we'll do our level best to keep you entertained with all sorts of nonsense. And music, probably. Send us your requests ASAP and make sure you tune in this Friday at 9 PM (Aussie time) to watch the fireworks xoxo
17.01.2022 LATE MAIL!!!! Hey all, we are beyond bummed out to announce that we've had to bow out of tonight's gig at The Townie due to Wade being hit by some severe flu-like symptoms and an even stranger case of us acting like responsible adults and making decisions based on medical advice and social responsibility. We are so sorry we can't make it down there to take the stage and make some joyful noise with you all, but we promise we will be back down there soon enough once we are abl...e, whenever that may be (hopefully sooner rather than later). Thanks to everyone who has pitched in to our Juneteenth fundraiser, you're the best. Stay safe & healthy and we will see you all again soon xoxo
17.01.2022 We're taking a break from our never-ending LOOK AT US LISTEN TO US LOOK WHAT WE DID cycles of hype to focus on something that is genuinely important to us. With systemic racism continuing both at home and around the world we have once again decided to use our small voice for change. Not through the "power of music" mind you, but by doing our best to raise funds for organizations that can actually do some concrete & tangible work on behalf of those who need it most. For our 20...21 Juneteenth fundraiser we have recorded a blistering cover of Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" in all of its 4-verses-over-6-minutes sprawling glory, and paired it with a new unreleased song titled "Contra" which we deliberately left off our upcoming Shoot The Messenger LP so we would have something unique to share with listeners. This little EP is rounded off with a stark acoustic version of "I Am A Model", revealing the vulnerability and doubt in the lyrics hiding behind the howling guitars and hapless film clip of the original. From June 19th all funds raised from Bandcamp sales of music & merch will once again be split between Change the Record and Black Rainbow. Change The Record works to address the root causes of Indigenous incarceration and works to prevent imprisonment. Black Rainbow advocates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBQTI communities. This little release with a big heart is being made available exclusively to our friends in radio across Australia via AMRAP's Airit program, with you the general public being able to download/purchase/donate the EP or individual tracks solely from the Royal Chant Bandcamp from today. We're hoping to generate some interest and awareness by getting it out to radio early, and this release will not be available through any other channels until much later in the year, all in an effort to generate some coin and some much needed change in Australia's criminal justice system and social fabric. Play it loud and tell a friend, help us spread the word and we will catch you all soon. You're the best xoxo https://royalchant.bandcamp.com//like-a-rolling-stone-cont
17.01.2022 Hey all, If you’re still awake here in Australia we hope you are in your pjs enjoying a mug/cup/glass/pint of your fav beverage or nine. Hello and happy liquid lunch to anyone chiming in from the UK, and good morning in America, reminding you that Bailey’s goes with everything. Shout your requests and we’ll do our level best to disappoint, just like a live show. ... (We’re going live a few minutes early and will start promptly at 9 PM Aussie time) xoxo Mark [and Wade, from isolation] Original Sound Lounge https://PayPal.Me/royalchant
16.01.2022 We have a super-special announcement for you all this Saturday and to help get the word out once it drops we're taking the stage this Saturday night for a FREE SHOW at one of our favourite venues in the entire world. See you there for all the kicks, bring a friend xoxo
15.01.2022 Happy Birthday James! Long-time RC fans will remember James Robert Carthew who originally joined the line-up on bass all the way back in, like, 2010? 2011? Who knows, doesn't matter. Anyways, despite leaving for the USA in 2015 he has remained a part of the family and is always up to something even if you can't see it most of the time. In addition to his work with his own solo projects like B38TN1K and drunk on a bike he's kept busy behind the scenes on RC recordings, film cl...ips, the website, and is always there when we need help with an idea. He is currently producing the 7th RC album (release TBA but it's definitely sooner rather than later) when not building flying robot cars of the future. The. Best. xoxo
12.01.2022 Massive love & big thanks to the folks over at 50THIRDAND3RD for making Blank Verse their album of the week. It was the best kind of surprise to wake up to and we are thrilled. As a perennially struggling unknown/underground indie band, press coverage of any sort (even bad press!) is getting harder and harder to come by with the complete collapse of music journalism, so not only are we humbled by the help in getting our music out there it means even more when you know that so...meone "gets" you. And yeah, they definitely get what we're about and what we're trying to do in our own busted & broke DIY way. Thanks to 2ser FM in Sydney for adding the album to rotation and giving "Bossa Nowhere", "Full-Throttle Starling", & "Pretentious Mess" some L-O-V-I-N on their Breakfast and Drive programs, plus spins from 2XXfm in Canberra, Bay FM 99.9 - Byron Bay Australia, Radio Adelaide, and Alternative Zone 100.3 Yass FM, plus keep your ears peeled for this week's edition of Aussie Music Weekly which premiers tonight on community radio stations around Australia. Your local community radio station (and yes, ABC Music and those exalted siblings of the J-family triple j / Double J / triple j Unearthed) would love to hear from you, so if you want to hear something just give them a ring or a text and be like, "hey yo, play this stupid song thnx" and they just might do it. You'd be surprised..... Big love to all, stay safe and take care of each other, more music coming soon xoxo
11.01.2022 Of course we made a film clip, glad you asked. Some serenity for the Wednesday grind xoxo

08.01.2022 We know what you were thinking and yes, of course there is a film clip. Check out this winner for "Full-Throttle Starling" and keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks as we roll out a clip for every track on the album. Special thanks to Harry Amon, Michael Nixon, Callum Pender, & Nick Horder from the *cough* 3x Defending National Champions Port Macquarie Vanguard Drumline *cough* for appearing in this video and showing their skills along with some of the greatest finds from the Prelinger Archives. 03.01.2022 You know how we said we were pairing every Royal Chant release (be it a single, EP, or LP), with a different charity? Trust us, even if you don't remember, we did, and we're happy to report that all Bandcamp sales of "What's Your Cosine?" have just been donated to Cheetah Outreach and we are pleased to announce that you all raised $121.38 (AUD) which came to 1289.24 (ZAR) which wound up being $98.91 USD which.....look, we just hope it helps out in some small way. There's a lo...t of critters out there that need our help in the worst possible way and we're just trying to help keep the lights on and put some antelope tenders in the food bowl. Thank you to everyone who contributed and listened and just....thank you for being here and sticking around as we enter our 12th year of being a musical entity. You're the best. We have something special planned for our second annual Juneteenth fundraiser where once again we'll be offering a Bandcamp-only exclusive release to help raise money for Change the Record and Black Rainbow. xoxo
