14.01.2022 We are here!! Open today till 8pm Open tomorrow 11am-8pm ... CLOSED EASTER MONDAY Stay safe folks and Happy Easter from the ROAK crew!

14.01.2022 Last week an elder of the Coonawarra community died. Tonight a few fond memories of Demetrio Zema floated around the table. One which stays with me is an incident of a few years ago when he had a little bingle on a back road west of Coonawarra. ... The Penola and Coonawarra CFS crews were quick to arrive. Shortly after our local SAAS took a shaken Demetrio into their fine care, one of the local CFS crew twigged that Demeet often travelled with a shotgun in his ute (just in case a tasty duck happened by). With great haste and good humour, two CFS crews set about a discrete check of the area for any firearms which may have been ejected from the vehicle, careful to make sure the search was done before SAPOL arrived. No firearm was found, but I have little doubt that if one was, it may well have found itself in a fire truck back seat and then in the hands of its owner. Its a small event, however its always stayed with me as a fine example of the community we live in; we all know Demeet, we knew he loved hunting and there may be a gun in the ute, and a car accident is shitty enough without added complications. More to the point, our community has such a fondness for an old Italian bloke who swore occasionally, and may have created the odd headache among the Zema Estate crew. He had character. He created a wonderful family, and wonderful family business. Saluti Demeet. The thoughts of a community are with the Zema family.
