22.01.2022 WEEKEND RECAP A win to our juniors and a narrow loss to our B-grade last weekend. With the A-grade having a bye, the seniors only had B-grade in Mt Barker and after posting a modest total the boys nearly pulled off a remarkable win. A superb knock from captain Rob Berwick who also fired with the ball while youngster Angus Thompson nearly spun the team to victory. ... On Sunday the under-17s stormed to their fourth straight win after posting a huge score batting first. Half centuries from Ryley and Teague Valli and Thompson led the way. Go Lions! 20.01.2022 AGM SUCCESS It may have taken two attempts but we held out annual general meeting for 2020 on Monday night. We had 19 people in attendance and ran through the AGM smoothly. ... Firstly a huge thanks to Matt Wolfe and Brett Wolfe for their wonderful contribution to our committee in the past year, with both stepping away for the upcoming season. The 2019-20 season didn’t end as planned but as a whole it was a very strong year financially for our club, through a number of fundraisers and our Thursday night dinners, and we also made the finals in all three grades on the field. We would like to welcome aboard new committee member Shane Manser and thank all the other members of our executive for taking on roles for 2020-21. 19.01.2022 SEASON IN FULL SWING For the first time this season we had all three teams in action. Our two senior teams went down on Saturday, the A-grade falling short with the bat while our B-grade were outclassed by Denmark despite 50 from Ian Attwell. ... Another fantastic performance from our juniors who won their third straight game after setting another big score. Special mention to Ryley Valli for his superb knock with the bat in A-grade and the efforts of Caleb Haua and Dylan Trigwell with the ball in their senior debuts! 15.01.2022 LIFE MEMBERSHIP Last night at our senior presentations, Wayne Harrington received life membership of the Royals Cricket Club. This honour is so well deserved for Harro who has been at our club for decades and continues to contribute both on and off the field. Harro has scored hundreds, captained both our senior teams, held a number of committee positions and has been part of the group that helped lead the club out of our darkest times. ... A very popular figure among our club and the wider Albany cricket community. Another life member Sheelagh Chapman presented Wayne his life membership pin before an emotional acceptance speech. Congratulations to Harro, you are a legend of our club!

A special moment for the Haua family with Johnny making his club debut and getting to play alongside his son Caleb. The B-grade posted a strong total and then bowled Collingwood Park out to win by 44 runs. The A-grade won a rain-affected match by nine wickets as Dan Robson and Ryley Valli shone at the top of the order in a difficult run chase. Our under-17s again more in excess of 200 and restricted Railways to 137 on their way to a fifth straight win. 02.01.2022 GREEN, ATWELL WIN MAJOR AWARDS The Royals Cricket Club Senior awards for season 2019-20 were held last month. In a fantastic setting at the Attwell residence, nearly 50 members attend the presentations. ... Mitch Green was one of the major winners, as he took home his second consecutive A-Grade Player of Year award. The skipper finished with 659 points to defeat Ted Batchelor (423 points) and Jack Steel (377). Green also won the A-grade batting average and aggregate after making a 494 runs at 54. Fast bowler Marcus Mellon was rewarded for his stellar year, claiming the A-grade bowling aggregate and average for his 21 wickets at 26. Rising keeper-batsman Jack Steel won the prestigious Kerry Chapman Best Under-21 trophy and he was also named the A-grade Player of the Finals. In the B-grade awards, Ian Attwell won an extremely tight race in the Player of the Year standings. Attwell finished with 364 points to edge out Wayne Harrington (358). He also won the B-grade batting average with 264 runs while Jack Hastie claimed the aggregate with 133 runs at 133. The bowling aggregate was shared between Tyler Crommelin and Jarrad Dawson (14 wickets) and Crommelin received the average with his 14 coming at 5.29. Jaydon Gadenne was named Player of the Finals. After an outstanding year of service to the club Matt Wolfe had his name etched on the ‘Alfie’s Ashes’ trophy as club person of the year. In what was a special night, dedicated player and long-time member Wayne Harrington received life membership. An honour thoroughly deserved by Harro. We also presented the Albany Junior Cricket Association life membership to Brett Wolfe, which was announced earlier this year. Congratulations to all our award winners and a massive thank you to everyone who attended and especially Connie and Ian for their warm hospitality. Go Lions
