25.01.2022 MEMBER INTRODUCTION Meet Kelly-Ann Hahn! She's a Nursing Director of Royal Perth Bentley Group. Kelly-Ann has worked at Royal Perth Hospital since October 2000, starting out as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department (ED). ... She's held several clinical positions within the ED including Clinical Nurse Specialist - a role she held from 2006-20014. Since 2014 Kelly-Ann’s career took a change from direct clinical care into Nursing Leadership and Management in the role of Nursing Director. Kelly-Ann has been involved in multiple quality patient and staff initiatives across her time as Nursing Director. These have including providing nursing leadership in the implementation of an out of hours safety model of care across both Royal Perth and Bentley (SAFE) as well as implementing a standardised visual alert system to inform staff of potential risk to occupational violence. Kelly-Ann is currently involved in a nursing research project (in collaboration with Curtin University) on the Acute Medical Unit at RPH aimed at improving the hospital discharge process.

Doris was formally appointed to this position in January 2020 after 30+ years in the healthcare industry in both private and public healthcare. ... She has considerable leadership experience as a former Co-Director and Director of Operations at Royal Perth Hospital. Doris is passionate about creating a culture of care and compassion with an unwavering patient focus. She also provides strategic direction for the largest cohort of staff within EMHS and has implemented programs such as Amazing Nursing and Midwifery Care and Walk a Day in my Shoes.
20.01.2022 MEMBER INTRODUCTION Meet Rebecca Crellin! Her title is Coordinator of Nursing, Medical Division at Royal Perth Hospital.... Born and bred in Perth, Rebecca trained at Curtin University and completed a Graduate Program at Hollywood Repatriation Hospital. Rebecca has spent most of her nursing career at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH). She has a passion for providing care to critically ill patients, having worked in the Intensive Care Unit for 10 years before moving into the afterhours environment in the role of After Hours Nurse Manager and then into Simulation Education focusing on Medical Emergency Team Training. Rebecca's first research project was completed in this role, investigating the impact of immersive simulation training on the acquisition of team leader skills. The findings led to the development and implementation of a Medical Emergency Team simulation training program at RPH. "I was thrilled to return to RPH 2018 and join the Royal Perth Bentley Group leadership team in the role of Coordinator of Nursing for the Medical Division. I feel fortunate to be working for a hospital that wants to continually improve service delivery and outcomes for patients by promoting nursing research."

18.01.2022 Meet Our Members Donna Larsen - RN NP BN PGDip (Clin Spec) MSc (Nur) Nurse Practitioner Royal Perth Bentley Group. ... Donna is a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Wound Management, in fact she was one of the first NPs at Royal Perth Hospital in 2006! Donna initially trained as an Enrolled Nurse in Edinburgh Scotland and completed her university education in Australia with a Bachelor of Nursing, Post Graduate Diploma (Clin Spec) and Master of Health Science. Her thesis was on wound sampling techniques and she continues to have a strong interest in wound infection. She has also undertaken research in the field of vascular surgery which has been published. She is a Board Member for the Australian Journal, Wound Practice and Research, and is currently the Book Editor. She is the past secretary for Wounds Australia (previously known as the Australian Wound Management Association), past president for Wounds Australia WA Branch and immediate past secretary for the The International Wound Infection Institute, of which she remains an active committee member. Donna is member of the Australian and New Zealand Venous Leg Ulcer Advisory Panel. She also has a panel appointment with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency - Ahpra. She has 27 publications in the field of wound management and vascular surgery. This includes being the co-author of an International Consensus document on Wound Infection and an International eHealth position document. Donna has also written a chapter in the current Therapeutic Guidelines for Ulcer and Wound Management. She was awarded with the Coloplast Biatain Literary Award 2016. She was also awarded as a Life Member of Wounds Australia for her contribution to the organization. Donna is often invited to speak at national and international conference and seminars, to share her experience and insight - and you can see why!
17.01.2022 MEMBER INTRODUCTION Donn is a Registered Nurse and current Nursing Director, a position held since 2006. He has 32 years of experience in the WA tertiary hospital healthcare sector in a range of positions from ward/unit based Registered Nurse to Clinical Nurse Specialist to after-hours management to acting in executive positions. Donn has lead and managed a large division/ directorate since becoming a director and recently changed work focus to be strategic. ... Donn is strong advocate for nursing research and the benefits of research to enable evidence based practice changes, improve patient safety and patient outcomes. As part of his Master’s degree he undertook research in falls prevention in a traumatic brain injured patient group following major neuro (brain) surgery. From this research a nursing governance practice standard was developed for the nursing management of this group of patients. Donn is a member of our Committee, a role he continues to enjoy over the last 10 years.

It was created in honour of Professor Doreen McCarthy, former Director of Nursing at Royal Perth Hospital, who was a champion for nursing research and instigated many initiatives aimed at promoting nurses as researchers and research into nursing practice. ... Doreen went on to be the founding Dean of Nursing at The University of Notre Dame Australia's School of Nursing & Midwifery in Fremantle. This grant is a seed-funding scheme, providing preliminary funding for innovative research projects aligned with RPH Research Foundation's objective to enable Early Career Researchers to establish a research track record. 07.01.2022 Meet Our Members Gavin D Leslie RN IC Cert PhD BappSc Post Grad Dip (Clin Nurs) FRCNA, Professor Critical Care Nursing Curtin University. Director Graduate Research Curtin School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine, Adjunct Professor of Nursing School of Nursing & Midwifery, University of South Australia. Prof Leslie has worked in critical care for almost 40 years. He was founding president of the Confederation of Australian Critical Care Nurses (now Australian ...College of Critical Care Nurses) and is a life member of Australian College of Critical Care Nurses. Prof Leslie was editor-in-chief of Australian Critical Care (2000-2016). He has been involved in research grants investigating adverse events after ICU discharge, fluid management and renal replacement therapies, pressure area prevention, wound management, rehabilitation of survivors of critical illness, enteral feeding and rapid response systems and care. Prof Leslie joined Edith Cowan University (ECU) in 2000 as the inaugural joint appointment in Critical Care Nursing after working in education, clinical practice, administration, and research roles in health care. He joined Curtin University in 2007 and has since been appointed as Professor of Critical Care Nursing and Director of Graduate Research whilst continuing his appointment and clinical research with Royal Perth Hospital till 2016. He developed the Master of Clinical Nursing at both ECU and Curtin and had a key role in supporting the development of the Paramedicine programme at Curtin University. He has published over 140 peer reviewed articles and journal editorials, 5 book chapters, and over $3.8M in research grants and postdoctoral fellowships.

02.01.2022 Coffee and Donation to Go! We're so pleased to announce a new initiative to raise funds for Nursing Research at Royal Perth and Bentley Hospitals. Two Tap and Go machines are now located at the 3rd Floor Royal Perth Hospital food and coffee outlets.... Staff and the public can tap their card to make a $4 donation to the NRF and support nursing care, delivered with compassion and underpinned by research. It's just like buying us a coffee!
