This short film explores the challenges dementia creates within Indigenous Communities and looks at the pathway forward. Australia has the old...est oral history and stories in the world. 11.01.2022 A third of adult Australians have high blood pressure (hypertension), but only half of them are aware they have this potentially life-threatening condition. Plus, the standard medications prescribed to treat hypertension don’t control BP in almost 60 per cent of patients. Researchers based at the Dobney Hypertension Centre (a joint venture between RPH Research Foundation, The University of Western Australia and Royal Perth Hospital) discovered this during an analysis of blood pressure screening results from around the nation that’s been published in European Heart Journal Supplements. www.rphresearchfoundation.org.au//blood-pressure-medicatio

10.01.2022 For World Patient Safety Day 2020, the focus is upon health worker safety, addressing the importance of health worker safety across health systems worldwide. With the COVID-19 pandemic highlighting the challenges health workers are currently facing, such as increased risks of infections, violence, accidents, stigma, illness and death, it is important that we recognise the value of health worker safety and its interrelationship with patient safety. Promoting the efforts made b...y healthcare workers who are continuously providing safe healthcare every single day for their patients, we are joining the World Health Organisation in lighting up local landmarks orange in honour of all healthcare workers and their commitment to safety. In acknowledgement of the importance of healthcare worker safety, various public places across Perth such as Council House, Matagarup Bridge, and Elizabeth Quay will be illuminated from sunset on September 17 as a gesture of respect and gratitude to all the health workers who are committed to patient and workplace safety. For more information about World Patient Safety Day, visit www.who.int//default-calendar/world-patient-safety-day-2020
