22.01.2022 Unfortunately, the Plushs Bend live stream was a little choppy due to the connection instability out there, so we've put together some footage to bring you on the journey. What you are seeing here is the first drops of the 68.9 megalitres of environmental water that will be coming through this new pipeline into the Plushs Bend Wetland between now and May. 5.7 hectares will be inundated when the wetland reaches its holding capacity. It'll be filled at 5-25 liters a second unti...l it's full, then this level will be maintained. The goal here is to keep it at, or near capacity for this duration to get some fantastic environmental outcomes. This new permanent environmental water delivery solution involves a 700-meter pipe that connects up to the Nelwart Street Renmark Irrigation Trust line. This pipeline runs through the adjacent property and under a creek, before reaching the edge of the Plushs Bend Wetland. The Nature Foundation of South Australia kicked off the watering here with portable pumps in 2018, so the site is well on its journey towards rehabilitation. This was the essential next step in the process of ensuring the long-term health of the site. A lot has happened behind the scenes to make this a reality over a number of years, and although it may appear to be a somewhat straightforward project, it took a concerted effort from the Renmark Irrigation Trust, the Renmark Paringa Council, the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder, the Nature Foundation and the community as whole to get this site to where it is today. The rehabilitation of these wetlands and floodplains is a testament to the community and will be a gift to future generations.

21.01.2022 The first steps in a long journey have been taken at these two Renmark environmental watering sites this year. 31.5 ML was delivered to these floodplain sites with a new and innovative delivery method utilising modified high density polyethylene piping connected to RIT infrastructure. These strands of floodplain were slowly soaked over August, September and October, giving a much needed drink to a diverse vegetation community. In time, with continued rehabilitation efforts, it is hoped that salinity levels will begin to fall, and less salt tolerant vegetation will begin to flourish.

19.01.2022 In the interests of staff and the wider community, the Plushs Bend Environmental Watering Community Monitoring Project events have been canceled to limit the spread of COVID-19. In its place, live updates will be provided to the community through the Renmark Paringa Landcare Facebook page, starting Friday 27 March when water is first delivered. These updates will allow for community members to follow the journey at Plushs Bend. We encourage individuals to visit the site over this time to witness the change, with as few people as possible.

16.01.2022 It'll be a hard #WorldEnvironmentDay to top in 2021!

16.01.2022 Plushs Bend Environmental Watering

16.01.2022 We've tested the recently installed Plush's Bend Wetland environmental watering infrastructure, and it's almost ready to go! This will allow Renmark Irrigation Trust and Renmark Paringa Council to manage the rehabilitation of this incredible site in a more sustainable way into the future. More information about the watering regime and a community monitoring program for the site to come.

13.01.2022 Catch the live steam of the Plushs Bend Wetland filling on this page at around 3:30 PM ACDT. Don't miss the first drops of environmental water hitting the ground through the new pipeline!

11.01.2022 What species of frog can you hear? Plushs Bend is teaming with life at the moment, and frogs are no exception! Between 30-110 frog calls were observed in a recent monitoring event at Plushs Bend Wetland, with 3 different species verified. Take a guess one or all of the species you can hear, and you'll earn 1 entry into a competition to win a copy of A Complete Guide To Frogs of Australia by Australian Geographic. Guess 2 or 3 species correctly, and you'll earn 2 entries! Winners and official species list will be announced in the comments below on Friday 8 May. No idea what they could be? Don't worry, you can listen to the species in our region at https://www.frogwatchsa.com.au/learning-resourc/frogs-in-sa. Just be sure to refine frogs by Murray Valley to make things easier.

06.01.2022 A shout out to all parents of children at St Joseph's School Renmark, Renmark West Primary School, and Renmark North Primary School: the April School Holidays (6 April - 27 April) present your children an opportunity to participate in an online competition, as an individual and a part of their school's team. To participate, they just need to take pictures of plants, animals or fungi in the Riverland and submit those sightings through the QuestaGame application or online porta...l. These sightings can even be made in your backyard where they can quietly observe the life around them. Thankfully, this is not a group activity! If they know what species they are sighting, they earn more points, otherwise, experts will verify their sightings and they will have an opportunity to learn about the life around them. Their points will contribute towards their individual totals, their school totals, and they could win all sorts of prizes from a Samsung Tab A Tablet to a Gosky Binoculars kit. There are 7 prize categories and teams are limited to 25 players, so it's important that your children get in quick! Please send a message if you would like the details of the lead teacher at your school, or would like any additional information. Check out the Renmark Schools BioQuest portal at https://www.questagame.com/renmark-schools-bioquest which will have live competition statistics from 6 April.
