23.01.2022 If you’ve been wondering where my tip posts have disappeared to lately, it’s because behind the scenes I've been working hard on meeting deadlines and trying to balance this with prioritising my family. I'm not gonna lie, keeping all the balls in the air at once is sometimes hard and every now and then a different one is dropped. These last few months I've been so deep in getting through the busy season and trying not to neglect my family, that popping up on social just sli...pped away. But, I’m still here, watching from the sidelines and cheering away when I see your business going well, and chipping away at ideas to give out just a little more value.
23.01.2022 Did you know that if you've been working from home this year, it's likely you will be able to claim a deduction. The ATO has introduced a simplified method for the period March-June 2020. You don't even need a dedicated home office to use this option. However, there may be a better option for you, depending on your situation. 23.01.2022 The best tip for staying on top of your taxes is to keep good records, including receipts and log records. This will ensure you can maximise your deductions.

18.01.2022 For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a Mum to a large family of kids. For over a decade I waited for my dreams of becoming a mother to come to fruition. I even applied to adopt (although this did not eventuate), and raised a few foster children. It was a long, difficult, and extremely emotional journey that resulted in becoming a mother in ways I never expected. But when I look back over the years I realise that I've helped raise 3 girls and 1 boy through permanent ...foster placements. Then I became a stepmother to 2 incredible young boys- well, they are really young men now! And finally I had my two biological daughters. My dreams of having lots of kids came true, but spaced out, and ordered in ways I didn't expect. Most people don't start off with older kids and teens before going through the baby years. Being able to birth two daughters at the tail end of my parental journey has brought both unexpected challenges, and been the highlight of my life. Running a business can be a lot like this. You start off with a specific dream, but hit hurdles and challenges that you never even imagined. But when you adapt, accept opportunities, and embrace the life that is in front of you, your reality can result in a richer achievement than you ever imagined. If your dream hasn't taken shape yet, or it's forming in ways you never expected, take heart in the journey, and find the next foothold. One day you'll have a rich story to look back on and take pride on, even if that story involves letting go and doing something completely different.

13.01.2022 Uniform claim errors are some of the most common errors encountered in an individual tax return. Buying clothing for work, or even being required to purchase general types of clothing for work, does not necessarily make it tax deductible.
12.01.2022 Calling all teachers! Its time to study your tax deductions so you can get an A+ on your return. See our cheat sheet of what you can and cant claim: You can... claim working from home expenses. You cant claim the cost of gifts you buy for your students or any time you pay for their personal expenses (e.g. their lunch, excursion fees or school books). You can claim self-education expenses if the course relates directly to your current job. You cant claim a deduction if your study is only related in a general way to your job, or is designed to help you get a new one. You can claim a deduction when you drive between alternate workplaces for the same employer on the same day (e.g. from your school to another school to supervise an exam). Want to learn more? Check out www.ato.gov.au//Teacher-and-education-professionals---inc/
11.01.2022 It is very rare for an employee to be able to claim home occupancy costs (rent/mortgage interest). Usually if you are employed then it's hard to justify setting up part of your home as a place of business. If you were required to work from home during COVID-19 it is still very unlikely that you will be able to claim home occupancy costs. Self-employed individuals also need to be careful to ensure they meet the right criteria for claiming part of their home as a place of business, as well as being aware of the CGT consequences of using your home for business purposes.

02.01.2022 Uniform purchases as "safety" wear is also a claim where a lot of mistakes are made. Special protective wear is more than just clothing or shoes worn for general personal health and safety.
