10.01.2022 100 times smaller than a grain of sand, respirable dust can enter the lungs & cause serious respiratory diseases. Silica dust is one form of respirable dust that can be present at a range of work sites, including gas extraction operations. Our Petroleum & Gas Inspectorate, working with Simtars, has provided advice for industry about minimising silica dust at gas extraction sites. 10.01.2022 From 1 September 2020, all mineral mine and quarry workers exposed to respiratory hazards will require mandatory respiratory health checks, paid for by their employer. Each worker will have a chest X-ray that is read by at least two qualified radiologists and a lung function test on entry into the industry and at least once every five years. 08.01.2022 Regulation changes commenced today to ensure all mineral mine and quarry workers in Queensland exposed to respiratory hazards have respiratory health checks, paid for by their employer. 04.01.2022 The Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017 has been amended to clarify and improve methane monitoring and ventilation system requirements in underground coal mines. The amendments include requirements for methane monitoring in longwall return airways, and securing relevant ERZ0s to prevent inadvertent access by a pedestrian or vehicle. They also clarify requirements related to controlled ventilation and abandoned workings.... Transitional periods to achieve compliance with the amended requirements apply.
