10.01.2022 RSLWA ANZAC Day Message. RSLWA is urging West Aussies to honour Australias servicemen and women on ANZAC Day by stepping out onto their driveways or balconies for this years Dawn Service. Australians are encouraged to stand in quiet contemplation outside their homes at 5.55am on April 25, after the COVID-19 crisis forced the cancellation of ANZAC Day services across the country the first time since World War II.... The unique tribute, which promotes the spirit of mateship while social distancing, is planned to take place across the nation. A list of ways the community could behind the ANZACs, include tuning into the radio for the dawn commemoration, enjoying a traditional gunfire breakfast of bacon, eggs and sausages; keeping an eye out for a traditional RAAF fighter-jet flyover or watching a special ANZAC Day commemorative broadcast on TV.
10.01.2022 This was written by a member of Royal Australian Navy. Sailors dont talk about- The culture shock of coming home from the ships deployment twice a year, and having to relearn how to be a part of society.... The moments you spend re-examining yourself in the mirror because you forgot what you really looked like out of the uniform. The bruises, cuts and scars from working in the harshest environments and conditions. On a moving platform.. Wearing normal clothes is the most comfortable feeling on earth. Even the jeans you barely fit into anymore. Getting sick every time you come home because you are able to eat civilized food again and drink your favorite drinks. Getting dressed with the white lights on. Amazed at how you lose so much weight without trying. Having to sleep with a fan on because the room you are in now is too silent. Suddenly being thankful for literally everything you own and experience in a normal day. Showering without shoes on. The water is a normal hot, and doesnt switch to ice cubes then to burning steam before losing pressure. And no water rationing hours! Folding laundry while sitting on the bed. Hands to action stations ! Man your action station Not being able to sleep because youre no longer in rough seas. The bed is still and the room isnt moving. Its quiet. And Bad stuff happens when its quiet.. Man overboard. They didnt say it was a drill this time. Everyone gets to their stations a little quicker to make sure their guys are good. You probably dont notice how often you hit your head anymore. Medical emergency in compartment... silence. Do I know anyone in that compartment? I hope they are okay, nothing major. I dont remember the last time I was alone in a room for more than 10 minutes. Fire, Fire, Fire!.... These things are always catching on fire. Coming home in a different season. The grass is green now. They harvested all the corn fields. Oh! She had her baby, bless her heart. You can go to KFC whenever you like. I never have been the tradesmen who goes to the pub, he use too walk past on his way to school, who now drinks with the mates he went to school and played football with, that still lives in the same postcode. I got to visit pubs and places throughout the world, 36 countries before I was 23, to put a number on it. Wow. Its been years...where was I? Five minutes to colours, sir. Coming home from all of this is going to be so hard yet so easy. Then you redeploy later that year, and it all starts again..
