24.01.2022 NOTICENOTICENOTICE To our valued customers and generous donors. Because of the current situation with COVID-19 the RSL Community Shop has decided to temporarily close our shop in Hedditch Street, South Hedland.... The health and safety of staff and customers is paramount. We anticipate that we will re-open once the situation changes in regard to the COVID-19 and people return to a more normal way of living. We ask for your understanding in this matter. Saturday 21st March will be our last day of trading. We will keep you all updated as to when we will re-open. IMPORTANT We also ask that you no longer leave donations at the shop as there will be no staff to process any incoming donations.

23.01.2022 OP SHOP OVERLOAD AFTER CHRISTMAS CLEAN OUT Op shops around the country are struggling to sort through tons of donated goods as families clean out their drawer...s after Christmas. The storeroom at Albanys Vinnies outlet is full to the brim and while volunteers are appreciative of the donations, some of the goods that come through their doors are really just junk. Assistant manager Joy Lilley said the influx of donations was a burden on volunteers. "When you get a lot, an overload, you do struggle to sort through what you can use and what you cant use," she said. "We do find that in certain areas the bins are quite over-filled and that can be a problem because people leave the items beside them and the weather gets in. "If the bins are full, we prefer if people actually bring their stuff into the shop so we can take it from there." Ms Lilley said there were some things that people donated that would be better suited to the tip. "If you wouldnt give your clothing items to a friend then we probably cant sell them," she said. "Anything thats ripped or badly stained... we cant use them in the shop."

19.01.2022 At dawn on the 30th July 1942 a young soldier named Private Adams was killed when up to 70 bombs were dropped on the local airfield by the Japanese. The town wa...s bombed on 3 occasions, July 30 1942, August 17 1942 and August 16 1943. On this day, 78 years later, we pause and reflect on the loss of Private Adams and also remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have served our country, and those who still continue to serve in current peace operations. The Bombing of our town is an important part of our history and should never be forgotten. Lest we forget.

Please be advised that we will be closed from 22nd December and will re-open on Monday 30th December. If you have donations you would like to leave please be aware that staff at the shop will be taking a well earned break and we would appreciate it if you could wait until we are back after the 30th December to drop them in. Please do not leave any donations on the ground outside the front of the shop as these become a target for people who like to shop for free. Thank you.

11.01.2022 Very disappointed today (Saturday) that there were possible incidents of shop lifting from the Community Shop. The CCTV footage will be downloaded and taken to the police. If these people are seen to be stealing they will be banned from the shop and police could pay them a visit.
