25.01.2022 What a fantastic Anzac Day at Clermont. The Dawn Service started off a little damp but was well attended by the community. President Dave Ward conducted the service and paid a fitting tribute to all those who have served. To follow was a service at Terracom’s Blair Athol mine by Warren Shearer for all of those who were unable to make the service due to work commitments. The service was small with approx 40 employees however it was a very solemn and moving service. Main para...de seen nearly the whole of Clermont in attendance with the weather improving to blue skies. The service was very lovely with many families reflecting on the service. To follow was a luncheon for veterans and their partners with a delicious meal. Dave thanked everyone for attending and especially to Lionel Duck for his many years as MC for the main parade. The afternoon followed with 2 up and lots of camaraderie.

25.01.2022 75 years on from the end of the Second World War, Australia has some 12,000 veterans still with us, from the almost 1 million Australians who volunteered to ser...ve their country. To recognise what they did for our nation, we will be offering a commemorative medallion and certificate to those veterans still with us today. Just a small way we are saying thank you. To apply, visit: http://dva.gov.au/medallion #ThankYouForYourService #OneInAMillion

25.01.2022 Erika, an 80-year-old woman fell to the ground and was alone in her house for more than four days. Luckily she had registered with the Care Army and Beaudesert police were able to come to her aid.

23.01.2022 Combined Services Dinner. Commemorating 100 years of the Royal Australian Air Force from 1921 - 2021 was held on the 22 May 2021 at Frenchville Sports Club with 210 veterans and partners in attendance.

22.01.2022 Some important information.

22.01.2022 Good morning, one of our members is in dire need of some short term workshop space in the Mackay area. If you know of anything, could you let me now please?

20.01.2022 Equine assisted therapy has achieved very positive results with people diagnosed with PTSD and/or people with trauma symptoms that don’t have a formal diagnosis.... This can include riders who have experienced a traumatic horseback fall. When someone is stuck in a fight or flight trauma response, equine assisted therapy can support a person to feel calm and regulated again. I am also trained in EMDR therapy. A well researched and recognised therapy to help people heal PTSD. Contact me today if you or someone you know could benefit from trauma informed therapy #thriveequinetherapy

20.01.2022 EXCITING INITIATIVE FOR SUB BRANCHES We know it can be difficult for Sub Branches to purchase and maintain the equipment necessary to deliver valuable services in their local communities. That’s why we made an exciting announcement at our Annual General Meeting. We’re currently trialling an equipment package in 10 Sub Branches one in each District. Once we’re sure the selected equipment is fit for purpose, we will begin rolling these packages out to our whole Sub Branch net...work, supported by access to RSL Queensland’s IT helpdesk for all Sub Branches who sign up. We estimate this will save Sub Branches approximately $50K per year, allowing funding to be redeployed into providing front line support to veterans and their families. As you can see from this video, Centenary Suburbs was the first Sub Branch to receive their equipment a few weeks ago. This is an excellent initiative that will truly help our dedicated volunteers focus on the fine work they all do in the community. We will send out more information on this program next year, so you can register your interest for your Sub Branch to be involved.

20.01.2022 Please consider participating in these valuable activities being held in Mackay

19.01.2022 RSL PFH District Members ANZAC Day As you are aware, ANZAC Day commemorative services this year have been cancelled due to the restrictions placed on us by the public health emergency caused by the coronavirus.... For many of us, ANZAC Day this year will be a very strange experience with, no Dawn Service, no gunfire breakfast, no Street March and Main Service, no public wreath laying, and no two up. However, this does not mean that we cannot take the time to remember all those service men and women who never came home and all those who returned and have since passed on. In response to this, RSL Queensland is running a Light Up The Dawn campaign in both the traditional and social media which encourages people to hold a private ANZAC Day service in their driveways, on their balconies, or in their backyards at 6am. To complement this program, the District has been able to arrange the following: Rockhampton A short radio commemorative service will run on 4RO in Rockhampton at 5.45am on ANZAC Day morning. The service will include an introduction song, an address by me, the reciting of the Ode, the Playing of the Last Post, a moment’s silence, the playing of Reveille, and the National Anthem. Mackay Deputy President, John Edwards, has been able to organise the following: Just after 6am news and again at 10am a short service will be broadcast on 105.9FM During the day, 101.1 Tropic North ABC will be playing a short memorial service in conjunction with addresses by Presidents/Executive members of Mackay District Sub- Branches. I encourage you all to get into the ANZAC Spirit and Light Up The Dawn, tune in to these radio broadcasts if you are in radio range, and enjoy your ANZAC Day. Yours sincerely Barry Vains OAM President

18.01.2022 We were dissapointed that we couldn't pay our respects to those in the services the way we usually would on ANZAC Day so we have written this song. This goes ou...t to all of those who have sacrificed so much for our amazing country. "We Will Never Forget You". 16.01.2022 Vulnerable people, including eligible veterans can order their Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme or Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme prescription medici...ne remotely and have them delivered to their home. Your prescription medicine can be delivered to your home, once a month, to reduce potential exposure to COVID-19. 16.01.2022 BREAKING: 2021 Anzac Day dawn services, marches and public commemorations will go ahead as normal. In times of strife, Queenslanders do what it takes to protect... each other. We’ve done it in wartime, and we’re doing it now through the global pandemic. Because we’ve worked together to keep safe, this year we can safely gather to mark the sacrifices of those who have served. #AnzacDay

15.01.2022 The Department (DVA) has been working closely with a number of supermarket chains to ensure vulnerable veterans can access a range of priority assistance services from supermarkets when purchasing online or shopping in-store. While the Gold Card is not a concession card, it does identify our most vulnerable veterans, and war widows, of which there are over 120,000 across Australia. From today, Gold Card holders are eligible to access the priority services offered by Coles, I...GA, Foodworks and Woolworths. The services being offered include priority online ordering, home delivery, in-store collection and access to a range of boxed basic grocery items which is delivered by Australia Post. More detail on the offerings from each supermarket can be found at the following links: Coles https://www.coles.com.au/customernoti/onlinepriorityservice. Foodworks https://foodworks.com.au/homedelivery IGA https://igashop.com.au/ Woolworths https://www.woolworths.com.au/s/discover/priorityassistance While Gold Cards may not be identified on landing pages (as we are waiting for updates to the websites), the DVA Gold card is listed or can be included when completing the online registration process. We will be providing more information to veterans about these initiatives through our usual communication and social network channels. But I would appreciate your assistance in highlighting these services to your members.

13.01.2022 On June 14, 1943, a United States Army Air Forces B-17C Flying Fortress plane crashed at Bakers Creek killing 40 people. There was only one survivor, Foye Kenne...th Roberts. The plane had taken off from Mackay airport, bound for Papa New Guinea. Wartime censorship meant the crash was not reported at the time. The annual Bakers Creek ceremony is a significant day of remembrance for all in the region. COVID-19 restrictions forced the cancellation of this year’s ceremony. This video tribute, including a message from Mayor Greg Williamson and a virtual ceremony at the Bakers Creek memorial, has been put together by RSL historian Col Benson on behalf of the Returned and Services League of Australia (Queensland Branch).

13.01.2022 Great weekend in Yeppoon for the District AGM and Annual Dinner

10.01.2022 Had our last General Meeting for 2020 yesterday which was followed by our Christmas Party. Steve presented Cheryl Smith with a Christmas Hamper (courtesy of @RS...LPFH). Steve delivered the other hamper to Ken Rowlands today as he was unable to attend the Christmas Party. He also presented him with a frame containing photos: Gallipoli Rose Garden, tribute to Ken’s implemented recycle seed planter, and a bronze plaque in Ken’s name with his service history. This tribute was made by Miss Ellie and the students of The Hall State School. Ken was chuffed. You will see from the photos that we celebrated Vince's impending 93rd birthday as well (courtesy of Karen McHugh Vince was also chuffed!). Jean and Sonia presented us with delicious snacks after our meeting in preparation for the amazing lunch and dessert! Thank you ladies! The RSL has not closed down for the year as yet as today was the 60's and Better lunch which catered for approx 50 people. This Friday night the 18th is the last meal night for the year so best if you book if you are intending on coming along. I would ask that you put in your diary for 2021 that the first night of trading next year is Friday 22nd January which will be a BBQ night. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a very Happy (and back to normal) New Year on behalf of Gracemere RSL. See more

08.01.2022 https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/v0Q-CP7yOWiyRw0S0Wynz Great news for Clermont Sub Branch

08.01.2022 After our meeting on Sunday 11 October, many of our members stayed on to enjoy a BBQ as we were joined by approximately 40 members of National Servicemens' Asso...ciation of Australia "Nashos" including partners, many Emu Park RSL members, an RSL Advocate, many War Widows, and a couple of Rats of Tobruk descendants. It was an afternoon of socialisation and camaraderie with the guarantee of more get togethers in the future and reciprocated visits where possible. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers especially Syd on BBQ and everyone else in the background (Jean, Rooster, Steve, Karen, Tony to mention but a few) as well as a couple of people who volunteered from the visitors! Thank you. I am adding photos to this post. Feel free to share. See more

07.01.2022 Last weekend was the start of our PFH Discovery Tours, and it was an adventure with such a beautiful back drop. Chrissie Drewitt and Nicole Ramsay from RSLQ were accompanied by Barry Vains and I whilst we had a mini road trip to Springsure, Clermont, Emerald and Gemfields. It was inspirational to see the passion and community activity with commemorative events from these smaller towns/communities, with an impressive memorabilia display at each. Thank you to those Sub Branche...s and the members for our warm welcome and hospitality! Fun Facts: Gemfields Sub Branch have an onsite Veteran Camp Site and outdoor facilities that are welcome for the community to use and consider their Sub Branch a home away from home for all veterans despite having a population of 1,400 they also know how to throw a party

07.01.2022 Mayor Greg Williamson (Mackay) presented George Mallet with his 75th WW 11 medallion in the company of family and friends. George was in the Navy in WW 11.

03.01.2022 Here's a feel good story from our Emerald Sub Branch, and an example of how collaboration can change lives and make an impact to others in the community "The photo is of the morning tea the Emerald Sub-Branch hosted with Mrs Taboko Stevens (a war widow) and family. The Emerald Sub-Branch has supported Legacy with a donation to assist with educational expenses for the children, two of whom are at University. The two daughters who are studying at University were not present a...s they are back at Uni. Taboko’s former husband Malcolm fought in four campaigns including Vietnam and was killed in a car accident some years ago".
