25.01.2022 ALL HANDS ON DECK: Can you spare a few hours to help assemble this year's massive poppy art installation in time for Remembrance Day week? The RSLWA Poppy Ladies are calling on current and ex-serving men and women to volunteer to help fix thousands of hand-crafted poppies into place for this head-turning display. From next Tuesday (29/9), 20 volunteers a day will be needed from 9.30am on Level 3, 66 St Georges Tce, to help stitch poppies into place. And as coordinator Judy Welch says, "if you can sew a button, then we can use your help". To get involved, either leave a ''Yes'' in the comments, or join the group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/582130745808087/ #rslwamateship Defence Australia

19.01.2022 As Bruno Bacci, President of the Gascoyne RSL Sub-Branch, said: Its been a long time coming! The Sub-Branch has used the old fire brigade building as its official RSL headquarters for many years but never had full control of the property. Bruno is pictured with Shire of Carnarvon CEO Dave Burton after signing the documents to officially acquire the property from the shire for the peppercorn price of $1. The only caveat is that should the Gascoyne RSL Sub-Branch ever cease to exist, the property will be sold back to the shire for the same amount. What an outstanding result! #rslwamateship

03.01.2022 Hughie Edwards was born at Fremantle, Western Australia, and joined the RAAF in 1935 before transfer to the RAF. He was appointed to command No. 105 Squadron in 1941. On 4 July 1941 Edwards led 12 twin-engine bombers in a low-level attack on the heavily defended port of Bremen. The aircraft had to fly under high-tension wires, through a balloon barrage, and into intense fire. All his bombers were hit, and four were shot down. In 1943 Edwards became commanding officer of the b...omber base at Binbrook, Lincolnshire, where No. 460 Squadron, RAAF, was based. The most highly decorated Australian of the war, Edwards also had a distinguished civil career, including an appointment as Governor of Western Australia, 1974-75. Edwards was awarded the Victoria Cross, the Distinguished Service Order, the Order of the British Empire, the Distinguished Flying Cross, service medals for the Second World War, and coronation and silver jubilee medals for Queen Elizabeth II. His honours include the Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George, the Companion of the Order of the Bath, and the Knight of the Order of St John of Jerusalem.

01.01.2022 BROTHERS IN ARMS: We've had a medal collection handed in, belonging to deceased WWII Army Veteran Raymond Alexandra Minson (W55560). Mr Minson, who lived in Dianella, died a decade ago aged 84. However, there's a slim chance his older brother, James Gordon Minson (WX14281), may still be alive. If so, Mr Minson would now be 100 and we'd love to find him, specially to learn more of the pair's scallywag adventures, as reported in The Daily News in 1950. Can you help? #rslwamateship
