12.05.2022 WARNING: COVID-19 RATs AND YOUR PETS It has recently come to light that some of the TGA approved Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) come with a Buffer Solution that i...s toxic to animals when ingested. The buffer solutions contain a chemical known as 'Sodium Azide' which is added as a preservative. While the amount contained in each test is very low, when ingested by small animals or when one or more vials of the solution are consumed, there is a significant risk of poisoning. Please keep these products safely out of reach of animals and if an animal has ingested even a small amount of a COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test buffer solution please call your local Veterinarian urgently. The Animal Poisons Helpline can also be contacted on 1300 869 738 to assess your pet’s exposure and determine if they will be at risk of poisoning and if they require urgent veterinary assessment. Please help us deliver this timely message to pet owners in Australia and New Zealand by sharing this post now! 26.04.2022 RSPCA ANIMAL WELFARE SEMINAR 2022 Extreme weather events, prolonged droughts, fires and floods are devastating impacts of climate change that affect countless... numbers of animals be they wildlife, farm animals or our pets. Species’ extinction, the mass death of animals, feed and habitat loss, and recovery and conservation are often foremost in people’s mind when these events occur, but animal welfare is often overlooked. The RSPCA Animal Welfare Seminar 2022 is challenging speakers to focus on the animal welfare impacts of these events. The Seminar will examine the devastating effects of climate-induced events, approaches to managing animals in disasters, and adaptations and actions required to help address climate change and build resilience in our natural world and the animals in our care. The RSPCA Animal Welfare Seminar 2022 will be held online on the afternoons of Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 February 2022 from 12:30pm and promises to trigger some lively discussion and debate. A recording of the Seminar will be made available via our website after the event. 13.01.2022 RSPCA RON: R251000223 Introducing Chase! Chase is a very handsome, 1-year-old, Male, American Staffy. He is looking for a family to run around with and give lot...s of love to. Chase is a very happy boy and will keep you constantly entertained. He often likes to pretend that he is on a pogo stick to make sure he fulfills his daily exercise needs. Chase has made some great doggy friends at the shelter and would love a home with other dogs to keep him company. These dogs of course will need to keep up with his energy levels! Chase is a very active dog with not much training, so taking him to obedience school would be very beneficial for him. It is a requirement that Chase meets the whole family before being adopted. We have recommended no children under 12yrs of age due to being so energetic. Chase must meet all dogs in the home as well and it is a requirement that he goes to a home with another dog in the family. Chase is a very happy dog with lots of love to share, so please come and meet him today! Chase's adoption fee is $440. This includes desex, microchip, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment. 11.01.2022 RSPCA RON: R251000223 Introducing Angel! Angel is a gorgeous 1-year-old, Female, Labrador Retriever/Great Dane Crossbreed. ... Angel is what we class as a special needs case and will need an experienced owner. She has a condition called Mico-opthalmia- This means that her eyeballs are small because they did not develop properly. In asymmetric cases, one eye may be able to see, and the other eye blind. This means that she may only see shadows. Angel is currently living in a foster home. Here she is learning how to socialise with children and other animals. She is also learning commands by clicker training which has been a great success. Once in a new home, Angel's owners will need to continue with her training to ensure that she stays a well-mannered dog. Her new family will need to have experience with dogs, and preferred experience with blind dogs. We have recommended no children under 6yrs of age due to her energy levels. We require that Angel meets the whole family before being adopted, and that the new family have another calm dog in their home to keep Angel company. Angel's adoption fee is $440. This includes desex, microchip, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment. If you think that you could give Angel the home that she craves, please call us on (02) 63626171 to book an appointment to meet her.
