25.01.2022 A 38-year-old Greenacre man has withdrawn his severity appeal from Campbelltown District Court on 20 November 2020. The original conviction and orders of the Local Court for one act of aggravated cruelty and failure to provide vet treatment to one mare were confirmed. The man was originally convicted after he entered a plea of guilty on the day of hearing to an offence of committing an act of aggravated cruelty on a mare on 21 September 2020 at Picton Local Court. He was conv...icted, fined $3000 and ordered to enter a Community Corrections Order for a period of 12 months. He was ordered to rehome all animals in his custody and prohibited from purchasing, acquiring, taking possession or custody of any horse for a period of two years. In addition, he was ordered to pay veterinary expenses of $4416.33. On Monday 23 September 2019, the horse was seized by RSPCA NSW Inspectors who found the mare with ribs, hip, and spine bones were now easily seen as well as a split from the bottom of the front left hoof which extended almost all the way up to the coronet band. The horse was caught and transported directly to Camden University Equine Hospital for further examination. The examining veterinarian found the mare to be in an overall poor body condition with a body score of 1.5 out of 5, the full list of injuries can be found on our website. The condition of the horse was deemed to cruel to be kept alive and was humanely euthanised on Tuesday 24 September 2019. RSPCA NSW Chief Inspector Scott Meyers said, Pet owners need to seek immediate veterinary care for their animals if they appear to be sick, injured, or unhealthy. Organisations like RSPCA NSW are here to help the community and their animals through hardship, there is no excuse for any animal to suffer from prolonged pain and discomfort. If you see an animal in need of help, please contact us immediately at 1300 278 3589 or report online here: https://bit.ly/3q22Bum To see images you can visit (THESE ARE VERY GRAPHIC): https://bit.ly/3nY33s3

22.01.2022 ROOSTER FACTS!! 1. Roosters will protect their flock of ladies with their life - they use a series of low noises to warn their ladies when danger is near and guide them to a safe space until the perceived danger has passed. 2. Roosters will search and find food for their ladies and when they do they pick up the food, cluck softly and stomp their feet like they're dancing - this is called 'tidbitting. ... What other fun facts can you tell us in the comments below about roosters?
22.01.2022 We are well and truly into kitten season, with many of the kittens already being adopted out. How can you help to lower the numbers for future kitten seasons? Keep your cat indoors, they will be perfectly happy as long as they have enrichment available. Get your cat desexed as early as is safe, check with your vet to find out when that is. Ensure your cat is microchipped and easily identifiable.... Apply to train and become a neonatal foster carer, to assist with high numbers of newborn kittens. See more

20.01.2022 If the ground is too hot for your skin, then it is too hot for your dogs sensitive paws. During warmer weather please consider walking your dog during cooler hours of the day such as the morning or early evening.
20.01.2022 Taro was thrown down a garbage chute - but he survived. RSPCA Inspectors found him traumatised and bruised, eight floors down, in the garbage compacter room. Despite the atrocious act that was committed against him, little Taro’s Guardian Angel must have been watching over him that day. ... Because had the garbage compactor not been out of order on that particular afternoon, Taro would have almost certainly been seriously harmed. Taro’s owner was charged with committing an act of cruelty and abandoning an animal. No animal deserves to be carelessly thrown away like garbage. Help us prosecute cases like Taro’s and show these hurt and broken animals all the kindness they should have had in the first place. Become a Guardian Angel today - https://bit.ly/373aveB
20.01.2022 We are thrilled to share an exciting update with you all! We announced earlier this year that, as part of our commitment to the people and animals of New South Wales, we are exploring establishing a facility that can manage both companion animals and wildlife at our Blue Mountains site. We are pleased to announce that we have received provisional approval from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service for a wildlife rehabilitation license, which means we are one step closer to ...making the project happen! The proposal submitted is for a dual occupancy site that will allow us to care for companion animals as well as wildlife. We still have a long way to go with this journey, but this approval means that the government has granted us permission to proceed with the design and development of the facility. The 2019-20 bushfire crisis saw the devastating loss of millions upon millions of our precious wildlife. Helping animals great and small is the foundation on which RSPCA NSW has been built. When we asked the generous people who donated to our Bushfire Appeal earlier this year, 83% of them said they donated out of a desire help affected wildlife. We have allocated a portion of the funds that were raised to help rehabilitate our wildlife in the most effective and impactful ways, including the establishment of a centralised facility that can handle large volumes of animals in need. We are in the process of submitting a proposal to Blue Mountains City Council to continue to provide impound animal management services for the region on behalf of the council. Next, we will be submitting a Development Application to Blue Mountains City Council for the development of the dual occupancy site. The site has the size, space and potential to successfully manage both companion animals and wildlife. The design of the proposed infrastructure and enclosures are being carefully considered with this objective in mind. Over the next few months, we look forward to working with local organisations, including Blue Mountains City Council and Taronga, to make this a success. We are grateful for your continued support, and so too are the koalas, flying foxes, platypus, wombats, bandicoots and the thousands of wonderful creatures that we will be helping.
20.01.2022 When our vet team met Lucky he was at a very unhealthy weight. Unfortunately excessive weight gain can cause a huge number of health problems for animals, including significantly shortening their life span. Thanks to some help from the RSPCA NSW Vet team, amazing foster carers and a Hill’s Pet Nutrition prescription diet. Lucky is now on his way to living a long, happy and healthy life!

17.01.2022 Our School Holiday Program is now well underway and this picture was too cute to not share! Earlier this week our participants spent some time reading to the dogs in their kennels. While this activity may seem strange, spending time with companion animals is important and also helps to create positive experiences for the dogs while they're in their kennels. The participants also spent time discussing the dogs' behaviour before and after the activity to help everyone understand the benefits of reading to animals in a shelter environment, as well as in their own homes!
