18.01.2022 We can't understand why this keeps happening.... defenceless little kittens left in a box on the side of the Bass Highway! Not only is this a cruel act, its also totally unnecessary. These particular little kittens have obviously been handled by humans, so clearly they have been taken away from their mother even though their size and development would suggest they are only 5-6 weeks old. Imagine what their fate would have been if a kind person hadn't found them and brought th...em to our Animal Care Centre at Spreyton. RSPCA can help you out. To prevent your cat having further litters of unwanted kittens, we have our Last Litter programme. You bring us the kittens, and we will assist you in having the mother cat desexed. Just call us and we can talk this through with you. No judgements, just assistance. PLEASE, cat owners out there, STOP this cruel practice of dumping kittens.

16.01.2022 Just some of the lucky few who have found their furr-ever homes recently.

14.01.2022 TEDDY Please donate to help rescue dogs like Teddy, have a second chance at life. Dear little Teddy was surrendered to RSPCA Inspectors, after a call to the Animal Cruelty Hotline. He had been passed to a new household, as his previous owner was not been able to take care of him. This resulted in Teddy becoming more and more isolated, as his new home already had a dog and they just weren’t gelling with the increasingly traumatised Teddy. He was being kept outside and starting... to dig, bark and jump up at the fence, raising the concerns of people in the neighbourhood. Teddy was 2 1/2 and had never been groomed. We rectified that the day after he came in. He weighed 4.8kg and had 430g of hair shaved off, all of which was matted into dreadlocks and riddled with buzzies and twigs. Matting as severe as Teddy’s can dig into the skin and can pinch to restrict natural movement. Good grooming is much more than superficial, as hair over the eyes can cause conjunctivitis and fear because sense of sight can be obscured. Darling Teddy was desexed, groomed, vet checked and rehomed within a week. It’s because people like you donate to our charity that we can continue to look after dogs like Teddy, and for that we are extremely grateful. If you have a few dollars to spare, please help us take care of Tasmania's neglected animals. https://www.rspcaguardianangel.com.au/teddy-the-rescue-dog

14.01.2022 Princess Faith has been feeling rather lost and unsure of everything since being surrendered by her owner recently. It seems she has always had a soft, timid nature, and although she had access to a cat flap, she preferred to spend most of her time inside. She likes affection from her person however, and seems like a quiet girl. Faith has become a lot more social since being moved away from other cats. She has strong opinions about being an only cat, however has indicated s...he will allow her new family to own a dog...if they must. We think Faith would be a good companion in a very quiet home, but she will need a special person who can give her the time and TLC she needs to start her life again. Are you the special person who can give that to her? Call the Devonport Animal Care Centre on 6427 2566, Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

12.01.2022 This is the face of the work our Inspectors undertake. Little Leo was located in a rubbish bin, in a refuse area, by a kind community member but was too scared to be handled. Our Inspectors set a trap, after climbing a tricky fence and locating the area Leo had last been seen. The trapping was a success and he has now been desexed, chipped, flea and worm treated. We take on these costs to give the animals in our care the opportunity to find their forever home. Leo has been ...adopted by the person who alerted us to his plight and will go home as soon as his rehabilitation is complete. RSPCA Tasmania continues our mission to give every animal a second chance. See more

12.01.2022 Bayley and her new human companions. Happy travels little kit

11.01.2022 Are you RED-dy for a running buddy? Red is a young, energetic boy who is eager to please. Being 10 months old, Red is still just a pup. He knows his basics such as sit and shake and has shown a real interest in learning more. He is very food motivated which is excellent for positive reinforcement training. He is not good around livestock, but is great with other dogs and people. His favourite toys are squeakers and will happily retrieve them and ask you to throw them again ...and again. Red will benefit from a family that is willing to integrate him into their lives, take him on adventures and keep up his training.

06.01.2022 Gosh, that worked well. Linc is being adopted as I write. Little Linc is a playful, friendly kitten just itching to find gentle folk to claim him as their own. He is available for adoption at our Launceston Adoption and Retail Centre on Invermay Road. Please call 6709 8100 for more information about adopting this little kit.

06.01.2022 Flopsy and Mopsy are big bunnies, in fact they are Giants. They are just over three years old and are ready to improve their socialisation skills. They are not a bonded pair and are looking for their forever homes from our Launceston Adoption & Retail Centre. Call 6709 8105 to talk about their care.

05.01.2022 Beautiful words from one of our dedicated team members. There are so many perks to the job I have, I get to see sick and injured animals bounce back and thrive, find their forever homes and the joy on that families face. But there are also days like today where you try with everything you have to help them. You spend the time with them making sure they know that there are people who are kind, you hear the most awful stories and you feel the anger bubble like a pot on a stove.... Its rewarding but can be so devasting. Sometimes we have to stand back and see animals who have been put through absolute hell and despite our urge to fight till our last breath we have to watch them take theirs. I know I am where I want to be when it comes too my love for my work, but I would be lying if I said it was easy. I am still new to this line of work but to see the devastation on seasoned staff when a decision is made just makes me want to try harder. If I can help at least one animal, I will keep trying harder to help another.

04.01.2022 This is a bit cute

03.01.2022 IT’S TRUE! There are still Tasmanian Tigers living in Tasmania, and we have one of them at the Devonport Animal Care Centre! Okay, so he’s not a Thylacine and he is more at home on a couch than in The Tasmanian Wilderness, but he is definitely a unique creature that doesn’t like captivity. Tiger has been at the Centre for months, watching other dogs come and go. He loves when someone takes him out to the dog park and gets on well with most dogs. He needs a special home with ...a kind and understanding family, and would love to meet anyone thinking of adding a senior dog to the family. Call the Devonport Animal Care Centre on 6427 2566 between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Saturday.

03.01.2022 The racing industry must recognise that community expectations with respect to what is acceptable with respect to animal welfare are changing. If the industry is to maintain its social licence - or even to attract new supporters - then it must respond to these changing expectations. At the very least, we need to see transparent processes put in place to ensure the number of horses and greyhounds prematurely exiting racing is dramatically reduced, and put proper standards and ...monitoring in place to ensure all racing animals have humane treatment throughout their lives, from beginning to end. We stand willing to work with the industry to achieve these outcomes. ABC Hobart Tasracing Australia https://www.abc.net.au//two-three-and-four-year-o/12876110

02.01.2022 If you are in the Fingal Valley and have a companion animal who needs a microchip, we are heading down with volunteer vets and animal care attendants to help out. We will also have the Cat Management Coordinator on hand to discuss the Tasmanian Cat Management Plan, which "recognises that cats are an important part of Tasmanian society, but the role they play is a complex one. The species can be many things to different people, including much-loved pets, useful animals that co...ntrol vermin, nuisance animals that annoy neighbours and invasive animals that spread disease and have an adverse impact on native wildlife and agriculture. The polarising views of cats in the community makes cat management a difficult and emotive issue. Understanding how cats interact and relate to wildlife and agriculture is integral to designing effective programs to manage cats and protect vulnerable species and agriculture." NRM North
