25.01.2022 Did you know... You can help animals in need by recycling eligible drink containers? RSPCA WA is one of the charities you can support when you recycle your bottles for a 10c refund. It doesn't sound like much, but every little bit helps and it all adds up to helping rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals in need!... At an exchange depot or recycling centre, tell the attendants there that you want to donate your refund to RSPCA WA. You might need this Scheme ID: C10264579 OR, you can drop your containers off at the RSPCA WA Animal Care Centre where we have a large recycling bin. It's the easiest way to do it - no need to remember a code or our Scheme ID - just drop your eligible containers in the recycling bin and drive away - we'll take care of the rest.

The cat was found deceased on Monday 14 September. RSPCA WA is investigating the circumstances surrounding the horrific death of a cat in Kalgoorlie. ... The cat was found deceased near the intersection of Talmalmo Place and Johnston Street, with severe burns to its body and broken legs. Its believed the incident occurred on Sunday. No collar or microchip were found. 17.01.2022 IT'S HOT OUT TODAY! PLEASE NOTE THIS IMPORTANT PET CARE MESSAGE: It is NEVER OK to leave your dog in the car not even for 5 minutes while I duck into the shops. In temperatures like today’s, the temp inside the car can quickly rise to dangerous levels, and your dog can start to suffer from heatstroke. It is always better to leave your dog at home where there is shade and plenty of water, where you know that they will be safe. There are NO EXCUSES.... We have also received a number of reports of abandoned pets in the last few days. If you are going away and have made arrangements for someone to drop by and care for your pets every day, please let your neighbours know so they don’t panic and report your pets as abandoned. And please remind those people to drop by more often on very hot days to ensure there is plenty of fresh water and food, and lots of shade in this extreme heat. Some other tips for hot weather: - Let your pets inside where it is cooler even if it’s just in the laundry area. - Make sure you have extra bowls or buckets of water available in case one gets tipped over - Make sure rabbits and guinea pigs and other pocket pets are cool and have access to plenty of water - DON’T WALK YOUR DOG IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY. Do the 5-second test if you can’t hold your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog to walk on. Walk your dog in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat. (Please share this with everyone you know who has pets.)

15.01.2022 It’s all paws on deck at the RSPCA Animal Care Centre right now! Over 100 rabbits and kits were rescued in yesterday and today’s heat, when Inspector Flo responded to a cruelty report at a property in the northern suburbs. Working with SAFE Perth - Saving Perth Animals from Euthanasia, Romeo's Rabbit Rescue and Saving Thumpers, all rabbits have been relocated to better living conditions, with some needing urgent care for heat stress. The medical treatment and care of this ma...ny rabbits over the next five weeks will be extremely expensive. Each one will need to be desexed, vaccinated, health checked and at this early stage, we do not know if there are any underlying medical issues. It is highly likely that some of the rabbits are pregnant. The cost to the RSPCA will exceed $30,000 alone for the 69 that have come into our care. If you’d like to help care for these rabbits and kits, please hit the donate button below or visit www.rspcawa.asn.au/donate so that each rabbit can receive the medical treatment they need, and has the best chance to find a permanent loving home after they have been sterilised, microchipped and vaccinated. 14.01.2022 It’s the spooky season, and here's some tips on how to have a terrifyingly fun (and safe) Halloween with your pet. If you are thinking about dressing up your pet, try something comfortable for them, like a themed doggy bandana. Don't make them wear anything that will restrict their sight, hearing or touch, or restrict their movement. If your pet is easily spooked by strangers, try keeping them inside while Trick or Treaters are around, and make sure that they have a safe ...and quiet spot to rest. Make sure to keep your lolly stash out of your pet's reach. If your pet has ingested chocolate or sweets, contact your local vet as soon as possible.

05.01.2022 *** PROSECUTION OUTCOME *** (Warning: contains graphic content) A 72-year-old woman from Jelcobine, 115km south-east of Perth, has today been sentenced after pleading guilty to one charge of animal cruelty in the Armadale Magistrates Court. ... She was fined $18,000 and ordered to pay costs of $4,300. She has also been prohibited from owning livestock for five years. When RSPCA Inspectors were called to the property by WA Police, they found Shakira had a large, open wound near her withers (shoulder) that was between 75cm-90cm long. The wound was so big and the infection so severe that parts of Shakira's spine were exposed. Shakira was given a standing sedation and transported to a nearby vet. Given the stage and extent of infection, and the size of the wound, it was determined by the attending external vet, and two other vets at the same practice, that the only humane option was to end Shakira’s suffering. 05.01.2022 *** SEEKING INFORMATION *** RSPCA WA has received a disturbing report of a small magpie with a blow-dart in its chest. The bird was found earlier today near the corner of View St and Johnston St in Peppermint Grove. The injured bird was found and taken to Mosman Park Veterinary Hospital, where vets have removed the blow dart. The magpie is in stable condition and will likely be rehabilitated. If anyone in the area has any information or noticed any suspicious behaviour, please report it to the RSPCA Cruelty Line on 1300 CRUELTY (278 358) immediately.

04.01.2022 Poppy, is a beautiful puppy who was only seven months old when she came into our care. Despite her happy and friendly personality, Poppy needed help. She was diagnosed with an ectopic ureter a condition that was badly impacting her quality of life. Over time, her chronic condition damaged Poppys left kidney until it couldnt function any more. Her body was failing, and there was nothing she could do to stop it. Infection had already set in, and she needed help.... Left untreated, the infection would cause pain and could result in the loss of further bodily functions. Today, Poppy is living a wonderful life with her new family. Her favourite activity is going for long walks out in the bush where there is a creek to play in and so many new, exciting smells! 02.01.2022 Here’s a quick update on the rabbits who were rescued over the last few days. In total, 136 rabbits and kits have now been removed from the property. RSPCA WA has 69 rabbits and kits in care. Romeo's Rabbit Rescue and Saving Thumpers are caring for 49 rabbits and kits, and SAFE Perth - Saving Perth Animals from Euthanasia is caring for 18 rabbits and kits. RSPCA WA has been on the phone with Romeo’s Rabbit Rescue again today and both organisations are committed to working to...gether, and collaborating to share information as we work through the treatment and care of all the rabbits. We are all focussed on getting these rabbits healthy, sterilised, and ready to find permanent loving homes as quickly as possible. The sheer number of animals means that everyone’s resources will be stretched. Thank you so much to everyone who has offered their support so far for you generous donations, and for offers of foster care assistance. Your help and support are greatly appreciated. Financial donations can be made directly to RSPCA WA, Romeo’s Rabbit Rescue, Saving Thumpers or SAFE Perth, and if you’d like to foster rabbits, please reach out to any of us via our websites or Facebook pages.
