20.01.2022 Stay. Sit. #StopPuppyFarming! We need your help to ask the Premier @MarkMcGowanMP to schedule extra sitting days to debate the Dog Amendment (Stop Puppy Farming...) Bill and pass it into law before Parliament breaks for the year. If these proposed new laws are not passed soon, it could well be another year or more before anything can be done to #StopPuppyFarming in WA. There are currently no regulations around breeding dogs - together we can change that. Please, tag your friends, share this post, and ask everyone to support Mark McGowan to get these laws enacted, like he promised, when he first became Premier in 2017.

14.01.2022 *** PROSECUTION OUTCOME *** A 55yo Yanchep woman has received a lifetime ban from being in charge of any animal as part of her sentence for Animal Cruelty. Miss...y, her Maltese-type dog, was found wandering by Rangers. Her fur was so matted, the Ranger couldn't tell if she had a collar, or determine her sex. She had to be sedated to have her fur clipped. Her claws were also overgrown - embedded 1.5cm into her paw. She was also in very poor body condition. Read the full story here: https://www.rspcawa.asn.au//2020-08-11-life-time-prohibiti Missy is still receiving treatment, and is recovering with an RSPCA WA Foster Carer.

12.01.2022 Here’s a quick update on the rabbits who were rescued over the last few days. In total, 136 rabbits and kits have now been removed from the property. RSPCA WA h...as 69 rabbits and kits in care. Romeo's Rabbit Rescue and Saving Thumpers are caring for 49 rabbits and kits, and SAFE Perth - Saving Perth Animals from Euthanasia is caring for 18 rabbits and kits. RSPCA WA has been on the phone with Romeo’s Rabbit Rescue again today and both organisations are committed to working together, and collaborating to share information as we work through the treatment and care of all the rabbits. We are all focussed on getting these rabbits healthy, sterilised, and ready to find permanent loving homes as quickly as possible. The sheer number of animals means that everyone’s resources will be stretched. Thank you so much to everyone who has offered their support so far for you generous donations, and for offers of foster care assistance. Your help and support are greatly appreciated. Financial donations can be made directly to RSPCA WA, Romeo’s Rabbit Rescue, Saving Thumpers or SAFE Perth, and if you’d like to foster rabbits, please reach out to any of us via our websites or Facebook pages. We are each posting our own updates, so the following relates to the rabbits and kits with the RSPCA only. RSPCA animal attendants and vet staff have begun the process of medical examinations. Due to the number of rabbits, this will take some time, as we also have a number of other animals in our shelter who also require ongoing treatment and care. At this stage, it is too early to have animals ready for adoption. When the first rabbits are ready for their new homes, you’ll find them on our adoptions website, www.adoptapet.com.au, and we’ll let you know via our social pages. In yesterday’s update, we miscommunicated that the owners were elderly. This was incorrect and was caused by an internal communications breakdown - we apologise for the confusion this caused. #RabbitRescue2020

11.01.2022 Thank you, WA! Because of your generosity we have reached our $60,000 matched giving goal! Don't forget you can still Give To Get Them Home until 9am tomorrow, and you can help us reach our new goal of $75,000! http://ow.ly/gMnd50BG9ME

11.01.2022 Last week, a Boulder family lost their home and all their belongings in a house fire. They were so relieved that their pets - two dogs, four pups and three cats - were able to be saved. And we've now arranged for the female dog to be desexed. If anyone would like to help this family by donating items for their pets, please drop items off at Kalgoorlie Feed Barn on Hay Street. You can also make a donation in store by stipulating it is for the "house fire animals"

10.01.2022 For obvious reasons, we wouldn’t expect this year’s Cupcake Day celebration to look the same as the 2019 one. To 2020-proof your soiree, here are some socially-...safe (but still sugar-filled) ways to party: - Video calls with your mates over tea and treats - A bake and drop surprise at your friend’s house - A work celebration in keeping with your company’s COVID-safe policy - Different groups invited to your house throughout the day - An outdoor picnic with a smaller number of guests COVID-19 has dramatically impacted our shelters, so we need YOU more than ever to bake, eat, and fundraise for the thousands of animals that turn to RSPCA. To say ‘take that’ to animal cruelty, sign up here today: https://rspcansw.org/2BVuqR6

09.01.2022 *** SEEKING INFORMATION *** (Warning: Graphic Content) RSPCA WA is seeking information about recent distressing cases of mutilated wildlife in the Goldfields ar...ea. On Friday last week, an adult kangaroo and a joey were found mutilated and deceased in bushland near Lake Douglas. Their bodies were visible from a picnic table, just metres away. The picnic table was covered with sand, stones and rocks over a large amount of blood. The Kangaroo had a rope tied through one of its hind legs. The kangaroo and joey had been cut in half and partly burnt. In a separate incident, a joey was found on Western Rd, with a concrete block on its leg. It appears to have died from its injuries. And in another incident last weekend, the RSPCA Inspector was called out to attend to a female kangaroo who may have been chased and become caught in a fence. She had severely injured her hind legs. She sadly could not be saved. Her joey was rescued and placed with wildlife carers. RSPCA is seeking information from anyone who may know something about these sickening incidents. Please call the RSPCA Cruelty hotline on 1300 278 358 and tell us what you know. Your details will be kept strictly confidential. We remind people that cruelty to animals is a serious criminal offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2002, and carries severe penalties including a fine of up to $50,000 and imprisonment for up to 5 years. There may be additional penalties for interfering with wildlife. We’d also like to remind people to leave wildlife alone. At this time of year, wildlife including kangaroos, birds, and ducks, all have young to tend to, so please give them space and leave them alone. For example, it is not OK to let your dog chase ducks or birds while out on a walk this can cause distress for the adult birds and their young. Letting your dog to chase wildlife intentionally can be an offence under the Animal Welfare Act.

01.01.2022 It’s the spooky season, and here's some tips on how to have a terrifyingly fun (and safe) Halloween with your pet. If you are thinking about dressing up your... pet, try something comfortable for them, like a themed doggy bandana. Don't make them wear anything that will restrict their sight, hearing or touch, or restrict their movement. If your pet is easily spooked by strangers, try keeping them inside while Trick or Treaters are around, and make sure that they have a safe and quiet spot to rest. Make sure to keep your lolly stash out of your pet's reach. If your pet has ingested chocolate or sweets, contact your local vet as soon as possible.

01.01.2022 On 1 October, for ONE DAY ONLY, every dollar you donate will be DOUBLED by generous matching donors, like Peter Alexander and the Petbarn Foundation, and Carole... Lenders. This means your donation of $25 becomes $50, $50 becomes $100 and $100 becomes $200! This life-changing donation means RSPCA WA Inspectors will be able to rescue animals in need; the vets will be able to administer life-saving treatment; and animal attendants will be able to show these animals the love and warmth they deserve while they wait for their forever homes. This is only possible because of YOU! Preregister and follow the countdown here: http://ow.ly/vBr750Bpylw
