20.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day. A day to commemorate the service and sacrifice of those lost as a result of conflict. It’s important to remember the families who have... lost loved ones in whole, or in part, and those who continue to serve. Today is also a time to reflect on how we can honour their service by ensuring veterans and serving members receive the care and support they need. If today brings up tough emotions for you or a loved one and you need some extra support we encourage you to reach out to the Open Arms Counselling Service on 1800 011 046 for free and confidential support 24/7. 17.01.2022 Happy retirement to Peter Simos! Peter joined in January 1975 as a trainee engineman at Sth Dynon. Qualified in Aug 1979 and moved over to sparks in Dec that year. He was a driver at Gowrie (working with Marc Marotta!!), Ashburton and Glen Waverley before coming into FSS on A roster then onto the part time roster for the last 10 years.... He had his original controller key "GOW 6" all this time. His daughter now follows in his footsteps. #traindriver #locomotivedriver #viclocodivision Marc Marotta I worked with Peter in the early 90’s at a depot that no longer exists which was Gowrie. Peter is one of life’s gentlemen, always considered his co-workers and you could always depend on Peter to do the right this. For those unaware the photo of the key- that is a controller key used in those days. The initials on the key are GOW which is for Gowrie depot. I want to wish Peter a long and happy and above all healthy retirement. Good Luck Peter!

03.01.2022 This Thursday 15 October 2020 will mark the 50th Anniversary since the Westgate Bridge collapse killed 35 workers. Every year the West Gate Bridge Memorial Committee plan an event for people to gather and remember those who were killed. Unfortunately due to COVID 19 no physical event is planned but instead a live stream event will take place via the Victorian Trades Hall Council Facebook page. Reflecting on the lack of accountability and liability on Employers back then, introduction of the Occupational Health and Safety Act in 1985 provided employees and Unions the power to fight unsafe work practices.
