02.05.2022 Seasonal Fishing Closure at Hot Water Outlet Canals. Fishers are reminded seasonal fishing closures are now in place at the hot water outlet canals of the Erari...ng and Vales Point Power Stations on Lake Macquarie until the 31 August 2022, between 6pm and 6am. All forms of fishing and the possession of fishing gear is prohibited in, on or adjacent to the closed waters during the closure period. The closures aim to protect juvenile fish stocks that aggregate in and around the warm waters of the outlet canals. Angling in these waters, particularly at night, can result in a high rate of mortality among fish that are yet to be recruited to the Lake Macquarie Recreational Fishing Haven. Fisheries Officers will continue patrolling the closures during night-time hours and may call on Police for assistance when required. Fishers can be issued on the spot fines ranging from $75 to $500 and prosecution of offenders may lead to penalties of up to $22,000. 21.03.2022 Pair found fishing in the Ex-HMAS Adelaide Reserve have their penalty notices heard at court Tuesday 12 April 2022. On Wednesday 13th May 2020 Central Coast ...Fisheries Officers were conducting land-based observations on the Ex-HMAS Adelaide Reserve -A well-known local fishing closure- absolutely closed to all methods of fishing. Fisheries Officers identified two males fishing within the wreck reserve from a small fibreglass vessel. The vessel was inspected at Terrigal Haven boat ramp a short time later, as a result of the inspection the males were each issued with a $500 penalty infringement notice. The 2 men elected to have the penalty infringement notices heard at court and the matter proceeded at Gosford Local Court on Wednesday 6th April 2022. Both males were convicted, fined for the offences and ordered to pay professional costs. The pair were ordered to pay a combined total of $4750. Fisheries Officers remind fishers to check the local rules and regulations before heading out for a day on the water. 06.02.2022 NSW Fisheries Officers Enforce Homebush Bay Fishing Closure On 8 January 2022, NSW Fisheries Officers (FOs) received a report of three persons fishing aboard a... small vessel near Haslams Creek Bridge, Wentworth Point. This area and the whole of the waters of Homebush Bay and its tributaries are closed to all methods of fishing under the Parramatta River (Homebush Bay) Fishing Closure. FOs were able to track down the owner of the boat through the vessel registration details and used their powers under the Fisheries Management Act 1994 to require the master of the vessel to provide information concerning the boats crew, as the boat was connected with a suspected fisheries offence. Under NSW Fisheries Legislation, the master of a vessel also commits an offence if anyone onboard commits a serious fisheries offence while the boat is being used for fishing activities. FOs conducted further enquiries and in this case the offenders received a combination of Penalty Infringement Notices and Field Cautions. The offenders were also educated about the dangers of fishing in Homebush Bay. NSW Fisheries Officers conduct regular patrols of the Homebush Bay area to ensure compliance and educate the community about the dangers of taking fish from the area. Previous test results have revealed elevated levels of dioxins in fish and crustaceans across Sydney Harbour, including Parramatta River and other connected tidal waterways such as Homebush Bay. No fish or crustaceans caught west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge should be eaten. You should release your catch. The DPI Fisheries website provides more information on recommended consumption of fish caught both west and east of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Everyday the NSW Fisheries Fishers Watch Phoneline assists NSW FOs to investigate illegal fishing activity. To report suspected illegal fishing activity visit the DPI Fisheries website https://bit.ly/3Hwy1AS or phone the Fishers Watch Phoneline on 1800 043 536.
