19.01.2022 TOUR BLOG 21/6/2021 You might have to eat Roadkill Alice Springs was a bunch of fun. Monte’s lounge is such a cool bar, it’s good to have a good stop over somew...here in this middle of this long ass trip up the middle of the Red Heartland. The staff and local crew are a stark contrast to the harsh unforgiving landscape with their generosity. It’s so good to see people coming together all over the country to enjoy some of my music. However, the realities of this touring life is that I’m always on the bottom level money wise, and I’m waiting for invoices to come through or whatever. So i calculated my busking change and filled up with food and petrol to make the crossing to the next town, Tenant Creek. I did alright in that i have enough food and water to survive two weeks however i ran out of fuel about 30kms from Tenant Creek. So as i write this I’m sitting on the side of the road in the red dirt waiting for money to come through so i can hitchhike to town and get some fuel to keep moving. On my journey through this wandering bluesman thing, I’ve come to read the biography’s of pretty much anyone who came before me who’s art i consider great or important to culture. And all of them seem to have something that kept them going in the formative stages of their career. Parkway Drive slept in random fields instead of paying for accommodation, NOFX used to siphon petrol out of peoples cars on tour, Henry Rollins would sneak into restaurants and snaffle down peoples half eaten food before the waitress was able to clean it up. All of these things were things other people might not have necessarily been willing to do to get their art across to people but it’s what got them over the line in the end. Mine, is eating roadkill. Yep. You can bet if i come across a nice fresh kangaroo on the road side, I’m gonna cut off its leg and have myself a goddamn feed up. It’s actually better than most store bought meat once you know what you’re doing. So if you ever daydream about what it would be like to be a traveling guitar man. Just Remember, you might have to eat Roadkill...

14.01.2022 TOUR BLOG 30/9/2020 The Purple Pub Well i stayed at the banyan tree for about a week longer than expected. I guess i just felt like hanging around drinking beers and swimming in the national park for a bit. Apparently i went swimming in a water hole with a 3 meter croc in it. I didn’t get bitten though so i guess the mother of three didn’t mind me dive bombing into her home for a while. I played every night at the pub there and every night it got better, drunk travellers dan...cing the night away. For me it’s extremely humbling to see that these people actually prefer the original songs to the covers, by the last night original songs is all they wanted to hear. And they were singing along to the words. So as success build on success I pack my things and finally get on the road despite everyones requests for me to stay a little longer. it’s nice to feel wanted. Chip and I pounded the midnight highway relentlessly through the wide open country stopping occasionally to view the life and death of the local wildlife. This stretch of road from darwin to cairns is longer and lonelier than the stretch from coober pedy to darwin. 13.01.2022 Busy day in Tennant Creek today. First I ran out of petrol coming in to town and the mayor of the town, top bloke Jeffrey Mclaughlin came and helped me out with... some petrol. He said he’s had people help him in his past of being a travelling busker so he didn’t mind passing on the favour. And as luck would have it, on the way out of town I saw the local community support bus blow a tyre. The young disability support worker had no idea how to change a tyre so I got in the dirt a little and helped them out. After a quick change they were back on n the road again and rolling. I guess that’s the rule of the road, it’s give and take. So always help others out when you can. You never know when you might need a hand Also shout out to my man Lee Edrich for helping us out with petrol cash. Top bloke, go have a drink at Kingsway Bar for me

06.01.2022 TOUR BLOG 25/6/2021 I Made It to Darwin, Just Well here we are again, in the sweaty end of the country. Mango leaves and palm tree’s scorching beneath the unrelenting sun. Words cannot properly describe how thankful I am of all the mob that helped me get here, or help me get anywhere for that matter. While this is a solo project, it’s actually the amalgamation of an on going collaborative effort from all you excellent people I meet along the way. So after smashing a big fee...d of Kangaroo leg from the side of the road outside Tennant creek, none other than town mayor Jeff came and helped me out with a bit of fuel from his jerry can. Top bloke. He told me about how he was a traveling busker once and for all the people that helped him he didn’t mind throwing a favour into the void and helping me out if he could. So as luck would have it on the way out of town I saw the local disability support bus blow a tyre. the young girl driving the bus had no idea what to do, so i got out in the dirt and put in some elbow grease, changed the wheel and had them on the road again in half an hour. Thus throwing another favour into the void of the road god for some lucky traveler to receive in the future. Cheers Central Australia, you’ve been swell. I pounded the road and through my last tank of fuel to a place called Banka Banka Station. A Mate had tipped me off that it might be good place to stop in on my way up. So i rocked up. Said G’day to a bloke named Adam and shook his hand as he agreed to host a good ole fashion country Ho Down. Money in the hat, Old School Style. So That night another bloke rocked up and brought his harp and guitar and we cracked jokes and traded solo’s back and forth and everyone had a cracker time, so Adam asked me to stay and do a second night. So by the time i left i had $300 in my pocket, Adam filled me up with fuel and people all over the country are driving around long distance with a Ruben Reeves CD in their car. So after leaving Banka Bank like a happy Camel leaving an oasis in the desert I continued up the chaotic Stuart highway escaping a bushfire near my camp at the Edith River and stumbling across a massive car wreckage with no one present at all. I finally made it to darwin, Just Next Show Darwin show is @doms Bar and lounge on July 1st I’ll also be doing @banyan tree caravan park from june 28-30th And I’ve got a big gig @happy Yess on Friday July 23rd

05.01.2022 TOUR BLOG 17/6/2021 Lost and Found After a Massive night at the Cranker in Adelaide I got up the highway the next morning like a fierce rash. Camel milk dripping from my moustache under a storm in the centre land. The sky has a different relationship with the land out here. It doesn’t rain so much as the clouds just run into the ground. I still feel blessed every time i see it rain on this red soil.... On these long trip danger can jump out at you on any turn and in the middle of the night about 130 k’s from Coober Pedy Pulled in to rest up for the night, when i turned around to let chip out of the car. There was no chip. My stomach dropped, and my mind ticked over to when i had seen her last. I must have left her behind at the rest stop when i refuelled out of my jerry can. I didn’t even know she had gotten out of the car. Then my stomach continued to drop as i realised there were no petrol stations open and I didn’t have enough petrol to get back to where i left her. I turned around and pounded the night anyways. About 30 k’s from the place I left chip i ran out of fuel and found a campsite of Bikers who were willing to give me some fuel. Thankful for my tank full I made it back. but after a day of looking around it was obvious she wasn’t there. However the fine folks at the S.A. Lost pet Registry managed to hook me up with the people who had found her fairly quickly so i found out she had gotten in the car with a farmer and been driven to a sheep station 4 hours north. The farmer was fixing his car at the rest stop where i left chip behind and apparently she just came and sat on his foot being like I lost my dad So he took care of her and i was able to find her the next day. Luckily his house was on the way to Alice Springs so i was able to pick up chip and keep heading north. Again thankful for all the people that help us out along the way to make this touring life of mine possible. Next gig is Alice Springs Monte's Lounge on Saturday 19th June at 9pm. 04.01.2022 TOUR BLOG 3/10/2020 Cooked at Cooktown So all up it was a motherlicker of a drive. It could be the longest stretch I’ve done but it’s done. All 3000kms. I got to see a few things along the way before I reached my resting point in Cooktown. I stopped in Kuranda to bawk at the price of a busking permit and go swimming illegally off the power station. It felt like I was taunting the salt water crocodiles just over the waterfall, however the freshies don’t see me as lunch so I t...hought I’d bust a few backflips before I pounded north letting chip chase the cattle away from the road wherever they were blocking it. I can tell her kelpie self is nourished and her instincts are relived when she gets to chase things for a while. After arriving in Cooktown it took me all of 2 hours to get burnt by the harsh sun and the locals welcomed me with open arms as I busked the local market. Which didn’t appear to have any rules other than don’t piss people off or you’ll get shot. So I felt right at home really. For lunch I sat with the Nomad professor discussing philosophy and the way of the world over a few mango bongs. And now I have an esky full of tropical fruit and no place to be other than in the now so I charge my laptop and prepare to collate the wandering fragments of my mind into my notebook for the next album. We might suffer blows but life definitely doesn’t always suck. At least today most of the sucking occurs on a coconut Until we can all grow up big and strange, RR.
